Title: RM 125 S
Post by: GMC on May 07, 2013, 10:07:27 am
I am about to jig a chamber for the RM 125 S soonish but have noticed that the barrel has 2 studs for a flange mount and the old pipe is the normal slip mount with springs.
Would this be a TS barrel or something or did the RM barrel have a bolt up flange on the barrel?

I assume the pipe would be the same fitment for the M & S models??

There was a gasket that goes between the pipe and barrel and a compression gasket that goes over the pipe that the bolt on flange compresses into the shaped recess on the front of the barrel to seal against the pipe (same as TS)

rm125m/s pipes interchange as use the same mounts etc, they will even fit on tm's and ts's even.are you going to use the same style of silencer the m/s had ???

What those blokes said Geoff  :) and yes an S pipe will fit a number of models , are you going for the traditional S stinger pipe and small muffler or will it be like your TM 125 pipe with built in muffler ?

Geoff, I would ask the same question because I think we would all like to see a traditional looking repro pipe and muffler.

I had an up-pipe built for my S back in 75' ! bike mechanic mike turner and i built it  after hours at the local bikeshop (Ranger Honda) he kept the original specs running it up the right side and using the stock silencer, looked cool, worked great and just finished off a great little bike ;)

Thanks guys, the pipe slips into the barrel but it seems loose in there.
From what I can gather from parts diagrams there should be some sort of gasket to make the pipe a tight fit into the barrel.
Is this how it works?

I will be making my normal style downpipe that has the muffler tube go all the way to the end cone.

I can also supply the chamber with just a stinger tube so that guys can fit their own short muffler for display etc but this isn’t practical for racing purposes.

Love it or hate it but we need to keep the noise down to help keep riding venues open so it needs a muffler at least 250mm long.

To fit such a long muffler onto the stinger tube puts too much weight onto the tube which will be sure to break it.
The originals only had short mufflers  (about100mm long) so there wasn’t much weight there but even so I think they used to break off too.

Haven’t actually built a TM 125 pipe yet Bill,
But if your thinking of my Elsinore pipe then yes it will be like that.

Sorry Geoff yep thats what i was thinking of and your TM 250 pipe  ::) on the upside an S pipe will be a bolt onto a TM 125 so you got that coverd to .

As CG said theres a tapered carbon gasket that slips over the header pipe and is compressed by the chrome manifold taht is retained on those 6mm studs ( if than makes sense  ??? )

Hi Geoff

I'll may be interested in one if you're going to start making them as a standard offering.

If I read right, are you offering two stinger options, long for anyone who wants to fit their short silencer or short for use with a 250mm silencer?

Do you have any indication at this stage of price?

Peter

No I haven't jigged for the A4 / A5 models yet.
I have built down pipes for the 74-76 KX 250's, not sure how compatable that would be for you though.

I have occasionally supplied chambers with just a stinger for those that are chasing a ‘look’
But most of my down pipes come with the muffler body welded on, this is a secure way of fitting them so that they will last the rigors of MX.

Elsinore 250, typical down pipe muffler style.

Wow, that's a nice pipe Geoff - matches the frame flow and tucks up perfectly. Sweet.

Geoff could you knock down pipes for the A model for dirt track use or could these fit ???

Been meaning to drag out the Suzi notes to check the spigot size but keep getting sidetracked, my gut feeling is the engine spigot was different from the M/S models to the A model.

Essentially I think the pipe specs will work good on the A model

Fitment wise it may need a different spigot fitted.
Also the bracket would need fiddling with as the A model wouldn’t have the mount for the muffler on the frame.
