Need to pick a few brains. As most watercooled Husky owners know that the magnesium clutch covers rot out the water pump area. I've had a few which I've had to repair over the years. I pulled out my 85 WR today to check the cover and order a new Aluminium one.
I undid the water pump housing only to find a perfect clutch cover. The surface area is spotless and I can still see machining marks. Considering the bike had sat in a shed for over 10 years I was expecting the worst.
My question is this. Did Husky ever release factory aluminium ones. I asked at R & D import about 10 years ago and I had a feeling they said yes they did but were NLA. Looking at the surface it looks aluminium but not sure. The next thing is do I use it or put it away and buy a new one from HVA.

Yes they released aluminum covers. It was in late 87 I believe. You probably have a retrofit installed by a previous owner? You won't need a spare for this bike so to to buy a HVA Factory repro would only be for another bike?

They are no problem i hear (the oem allooominum ones) and i have just fitted a HVA cover to replace a badly "pooohhed" mag cover.
It wasnt "perfect" and i had to drill out one bolt hole to get the line right. the pump cover holes were much shorter than the std so i had to get shorter bolts and i had to drill out the vent hole for the bigger tube.
But no corrosion??? uuubbeeeuutteee ;D :D!.
I've heard that painting the cover with a high powered 2pac paint can help life as well.
Enjoy

Here in the U.S., the '84 watercooled Husky's were recalled for cover replacement except for 125's.
