Title: Maico 490 kick start lever

Hi . Can someone tell me what year KTM kick start lever fits the 490 , and does it make a noticeable difference to start them , compared to the standard one ,

No difference. I bought a mid eighties one that fit.

I never previously had trouble starting mine. I have worked it out now. As I'm getting older I haven't got the same leg strength.  I was able to start mine before each race on sunday, but had to stand on the stand each time to get extra height. I also found if it didn't start after about four kicks I tickled the carby again. The other choice is pit at the top of a hill.

Hence the term 'Maico hill'.

Same with mine Kev, I tickled the carb before each Moto and it started in about 4 kicks..

Brett something I forgot to tell you Noel was having trouble starting his 490.  He lengthen the muffler and it started easier.  Maybe that would help.  Probably increased the back pressure.  You can try my muffler sometime.
