just picked up a 1980 rm 125 motor today $75. to my surprise clutch lifter and clutch plates are titanium. there is some wear but it is in usable shape. just would like to know if titanium parts were available in 1980 or is this some kind of works motor? the rest of the motor looks standard.

Are you sure the clutch plates arent alluminium?

As Davey says, you will find they are aluminium

thank you for your comments guys. you may be right. it may be just some sort of hardened aluminium. i am just not sure if aluminium would be strong enough for a clutch lifter but there may be some wear resistant grade. could only find very little about use of titanium in motocross bikes on the internet. mainly small parts like bolts, nuts, springs etc in late seventies and early eighties in works bikes.

Trust me Thomas the tank engine, it's all aluminium, some stuff is hard anodised for longer wear, and your right, "Works" bikes had lots of Ti and Magnesium.
