Post by: euro bikes on April 09, 2013, 02:31:58 pm
Hi , i'm after a 77.25 maico piston for a 1974 mod 400. Any idea's it's the 2nd oversize in a Mahle.

Mahles for the 400 are not as easy to get as they used to be. I grabbed one off USA eBay a year ago for $60, a bargain for a NOS piston and ring and they still occasionally come up for under $150. If you haven't already, give Les at VMX Unlimited a ring, he may be able to help.  [email protected] (http://[email protected])  02 4981 7241
Here's a Wossner, it's what I mostly use these days. Les has 'em in stock aT A cheaper price than from the USA.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Maico-400-Wossner-Piston-Kit-NEW-/170601719627?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b8a7a74b&vxp=mtr#ht_1847wt_892  (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Maico-400-Wossner-Piston-Kit-NEW-/170601719627?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b8a7a74b&vxp=mtr#ht_1847wt_892)

Had a quick hunt through my spares and alas, I have a second hand 77mm sorry. I replaced this, with I think, a wiseco that was for a Yamaha? It has the same gudgeon height as the Mahle but I did have to machine the skirt to clear the crank webs! I got the Wiseco through Stackers.
Hope this helps.

It was probably a Suzuki RM370 piston....I've never actually done the conversion but it seems popular in the USA. I'll have a dig through my 2nd hand piston stash tomorrow and see if I've got something.
