Square. I hate em. My father has one and I have spent allot of time getting the electrics to work properly, got there in the end, had a ride on it, confirmed my suspicions that they were crap, weird to ride weird to repair.

Hey, Wal, seeing as we have a cuppla BMs on here, here's another one, it's me mate, Pepe, on his R60 in 1969 outside our pad in Miranda.

Pepe was an, ummm, excitable bloke and rode the R60 as though it was the latest in road racing kit, brave lad !!!.
We did a bit of work on the motor, later, usual hot up stuff, pistons, cam, Dellortos , it didn't go too bad for a stodgy Teutonic thing, in our madly Triumph Bonneville, Rocket Gold Star, and SS Norton oriented scene !!

Electrics !!, here's a tip for anyone with a Boomer with electronic ignition , like my long gone mid '80s R65. the Hall effect trigger assembly  is the same as a JB Camira, Bosch made and all,  complete unit from BMW, $600, Camira trigger assy from local auto parts shop, $ 50 or so , 1990s prices

The old houso dunny became my engine building room. Everything from grey Holden motors to 250 Jawa.

 My old R60 was the smoothest bike ever, and I liked the way it handled even though most mates said they handled weird. (I only felt safe on a dirt bike anyhow!). The only road bike I owned that was 5 MPH faster in 3rd than it was in top!
 I wouldn't have sold it but I broke my left wrist at Arcadia and couldn't use the clutch.

Cool now and of course you can still buy them new as Chinese  Chang Jings or Russian Diepners.  Forgive my spelling ;)

 This is the last B.M. I owned, '56 R50. and the nearest I got to road racing, Gordon Doble at Oran park mid '60s.
I did not even try one lap, (thought I might like it against better judgment)!

 Cost bulk money, no acceleration but achieved 8000 rpm down conrod with the high R60 final drive ratio Terry Lauer at the helm.
