Building a McGrath special? 95/96 were the best ones...

Building a McGrath special? 95/96 were the best ones...

95 's had fork problems whn they switched to kayaba.
92/93/94 's are best .My stock 94 was dynoed by top gear Honda and the guys still talk about it, best power spread ever , much better than the later alloy framed ones.
here is a 96

Didn't Mcgrath continue to ride a '93 with latest model cosmetics right up to '96? I think the move to the alloy frame was one of the reasons he left Honda

He did in 94 , the 93 was half a deg steeper on the front end than the 94 , not sure after that.

No not building anything special, had a 95 about 5yrs ago always been one of my favorite bikes so I'm looking for another but they are getting harder to find at the moment, I have my eye on the ebay 96 model only thing is it would cost me a bit to get it back here to Newcastle

They're still out there, but you'll be lucky if you find a good one quickly.

Took me about 12 months to find a 93/94 125 worth buying.

The 97's were a Dog , I resold mine before I even raced it and went back to my 94 .

Yeah I'm not interested in the alloy frame CR's not even the last model, the last steel frame CR's had everything perfect and a good feel to it

I was working at a honda dealership when the alloy framed 97 model came out...What a P.O.S! They lost the magic motor & the suspension was worse than any other CR250 Ive ever ridden!

I have read that the alloy frames were too rigid, I think they pushed the alloy frames out too fast rather than trying to perfect it, Yamaha was the next to bring the alloy frame out in 05? And they got it right

It was such a shock to go from the 96 model, which a mate had & it bloody hauled ass, to the monstrosity of the 97...No wonder it shocked J.Mac into changing brands!
Thread Hijack?

That one appears to be a reasonably original '95 model...'96 had a grey airbox & black shrouds...
mildly modified seat which would only suit riders my height & the price isslightlyambitious...
