sorry guys but im very new to air cooled engines...just got a dt175..im just wondering ..do aircolled engines over heat and if so what r the signs..?
-
Spit on it, if it bubbles, its hot :)
-
expectoring in public is illegal Rosco! :o
twinrock, as weird as this sounds I've never had an 'aircooled' 2 stroke overheat ???
when I was a kid it was 'oh yeah, ya gotta let it cool down after a good ride!!'
Bullocks!! I never believed this and kept riding and it's not caused any issues yet. Maybe if you rode a 6 hour dirt track or something it may. Check your plug colour and for electrode tip melting but I somehow think it's not overheating. Plug type/heat range? If you think it's running hot then ride faster to get more wind! ;D
-
Never fear Doc Rossco greets all his good friends and clients like that! ;D
Let the smart arse remarks/glib repartee begin ::)
-
:D :D :D..I'll bet most run hot too!
-
docs right but when you are riding for a while fairly hard
you will notice a drop in performance
and you may get pre ignition noises
but unless its detonating like a 50 calibre machine gun
you should be ok ;D
you could rap a potato in foil
and jam it in fins and just
pull over every now and then
and give it a poke and if its
black its too hot and if its
cooked eat it for din din ;D
-
if she seems lethagic and stops responding and smells hot.. its hot.
You may get piston scuffing or tightness dependent on engine
answer is above ride it faster and put more oil in the mix. is made for that temp

If the spit balls up and jumps like a cat on a hot tin roof then stop and let it cool. Slow bubbling spit means she's getting there, check again soon, or see the doc as you might have rabies..
-
You can try the same test as checking a flat 9 volt battery.....sticking your tongue on it ;)
-
ever had a looky inside one of those 9volt suckers Evo? all they are are basically 4 AAA's connected in series..funny how they are worth twice the price when you bundle them together and wrap a case around them ::) sorry..back to the topic :P

So what we have so far;
Golly on the head, brilliant in it's simplicity
A spud and some foil, hmm not bad but what about the sour cream and sweet chilli sauce?
Ride faster and let the air do the work, again brilliant in the simpicity and ease of application
Checking Doc for rabies, noteworthy but hardly going to be a definitve guide to overheating
Planting your tongue on the head followed by a 9V battery, good but don't see how the battery comes into it
My choice would be the spud, crisp chunky wedges in the middle of a ride superb. ;D
Choice is yours

I do not have rabies! I had my shots years ago and besides..we don't have it at all in QLD!! Joh banned it back in the 70's along with everything else ;) I have seen those little stick on engine thermometer type thingy's on egay. Problem solved! only for the fact this brings us to yet another question..just what is the recommended operating temperature for a DT175? :P Lozza the battery is just a simple test to see if your tongue still works after being fried. Where is the best place to place ones tongue on a motor..another tricky question that needs to be addressed ???
-
Off thread, on thread whatever...I don't think we have any little kids on the forum so this should be safe...
It's said "What does a nine volt battery have in common with a womans bum hole - ya know ya shouldn't, but sooner or later you're going to stick your tongue on it" ;) :) :D ;D :-*.
-
check the CHT and EGT
-
never heard that one haha
-
hey wombat i thought the answer was
you had to stick your tounge on it
to see if it still works :P ;D
-
:D :D :D I dun think I'd wanna be that close to find out if it still worked Holeshot! Jeez, I see how ya got your name! :P just kiddin'..oh shit..up go the prices from Motowreck :D
