That would be an import, he brings a lot of bikes in from the US to make a few $$
-
Check out his other items .. he has a "concourse correct" Mustang carby for sale for $4500 (yes $4500) and when someone asks for a picture of the base plate (assumedly to confirm authenticity) the seller asks for his email address becasue he is at his 12 picture limit on ebay ::)
You would have to think that for a $4500 carby he would either remove one of the other pics or simply cough up the few cents more ebay charge for any pictures over the free twelve and post what the enquirer wants. Says a lot about the seller right there.

I can tell you now after emailing the seller last week about one of his bikes he is an arogant smartarse who only cares about making money..
-
At the moment 10k will buy you almost any concourse, 100 point perfect restored pre 90 mx bike you wish to own. I highly doubt this will sell for anywhere near the starting price, but i'd like to be proven wrong :-\
-
I'd put mine on the market if his sells for that money and mine has more trick parts..

I'm not saying that 81 490's aren't worth good money, only that if you wanted to part with 10k for one you could get a much better example than this for your money.

on a slightly different tangent, a few years ago i saw an original 1968 426 Hemi Carter AFB carb on ebay for sale. this one looked to have been on fire at least once, and then had been stored in a bucket of salt water for around 10 years. the price was $2500.
i seem to remember that it sold too, here's an example...
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1970-426-Hemi-Cuda-Carter-AFB-Correct-Carburetor-Choke-/400416316111?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d3aac1acf (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1970-426-Hemi-Cuda-Carter-AFB-Correct-Carburetor-Choke-/400416316111?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d3aac1acf)
not bad for a vacuum choke

I know of a set of Shelby Stang bonnet springs that made $900 ..... having a NOS part fetish when you are building cars is expensive beyond us VMX mortals.
Like the 81 490 but like you are saying 10K buys a LOT in this market ..... theres a lot of nice bikes sitting about at 5 K at the moment

Any thoughts on this one. Same seller.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HONDA-CR480-RC500-REPLICA-VMX-RM-YZ-ELSINORE-/130860815986?pt=AU_Motorcycles&hash=item1e77e99672
I did have a 83 model CR480. Any issues with 82 models.
Thanks
Cam

No issues with the 82, it's just that the 83 is a much better package.
-
I know of someone that purchased a bike from this seller . (no names or what bike type )
Was shiny on top ; not so shiny underneath nor rebuilt inside , as he was led to believe.
Like most old stuff ; best to have a real good hard look (in person, where poss) before you buy.
Regards ,
Steve

It's the same fibber who's selling the '80 440. http://ozvmx.com/community/index.php?topic=28173.0 (http://ozvmx.com/community/index.php?topic=28173.0)
At least this one's not a Wheelsmith but it's got those fugly Vintage Iron graphics that were "in" for a couple of months back in 1994.
