Title: WTF? No airscrew on 1984 RM 125 flat side carb?
Post by: Bruno1969 on March 04, 2013, 10:36:11 pm
Hi all,

My '84 RM 125 has reallly got me scratching my head.  ???

The carb doesn't have an airscrew and by this I dont mean it's missing / lost because the space where you normally would find it, appears never to have had one at all. The casting is blanked off where this would normnally be tapped and drilled....As you can imagine this makes tuning the carb damn tricky. Is it a fault from t e factory (which I can't imagine) or were some made like that? My bike has some fancy race history back in day as evidenced by the Ohlins shock, ported barrel etc. - could this be part of the problem / reason?

What are your thoughts o collective Suz Box gurus?

That's how they are, the 250 is the same.

Live and learn!

Is there any benefit to be had in putting on another card from, say an '85 model, which has an airscrew?

Wasn't that just the idle adjustment on the choke knob?

Put a later model Keihin flatslide carb on, early Mikuni flatslides weren't much chop..

Most old skool turners recommended a 36mm Keihin for the RM125s...Really livens them up!

As stated that was how they came (my 82 465 as well), I was told to adjust the idle via the play in the throttle - it all got a bit too fiddly. My slide was also worn pretty badly so I invested in a new 38mm Mikuni and it came with the adjuster so all good
