Title: RM 125 B muffler
Post by: Nipper on March 04, 2013, 08:13:27 pm
A quick question for the suzuki "brains trust", I am getting closer to finishing a rm 125 B. this will be a competion bike and my query is to do with the exhaust. I have a standard rm 125 chamber in reasonable condition ,but I dont have a muffler, a quick look on the internet and I am having trouble finding a muffler for this particular model. Can I use the RM 250 B muffler on the 125 pipe? Also is there a after market pipe available for this bike. Thanks.

GMC does a pipe/ muffler combo that works a treat....I think his muffler will fit the std pipe. Its also longer than the original stinger and would be more appropriate especially with the new noise limit coming in soon.

Can't answer that Paul, I haven't ridden it yet. Waiting for new forks and Ohlins shocks to be made.

Geoff Morris assures me he has done some R & D with this pipe and reckons he has got it spot on. It not only looks a treat but fits perfectly without any mods. I didn't give him much lead time to build it but he gave me a delivery date and sure as shit it turned up on that day. I would definitely use his workmanship again.

Davey, that is where you let yourself down. That is a tuned section of hose taken from a solid 30 mtr billet of Pope hose that has been fire, water and smoke tested in some of the wildest smoking aparatuses imaginable.
It's here for the long run ;)

Hey Ted
Re that hose.

Maybe I can turn up a collar for you? Not sure what it should be standard but I can turn up a brass or steel one if it helps.

Just let me know

No kinking chink shit here. POPE... Australian company based in SA for the last 88 years and is a subsidiary of TORO...American  lawn equipment company since 1914  ;D

However I will take up Paul's offer of a metal collar for aesthetics.

The piece of hose is cut to just the right length to hold the 'O' ring down into a step in the casing, I purchased a brand-new genuine oil seal for the actuating shaft but it wouldn't fit.  Don't fit an alloy spacer, hunt around some bearing shops for a seal with the correct dimensions; got me beat why a genuine seal didn't fit?

Hey John get well soon mate  :) I wondered WTF that hose was for  ??? They probably gave you a seal for an earlier Model TM / RMS or somthing  ???

Not a legend Nipper. If I can't use it I give it to someone who can.

In the last 3 months I have  given away for free a swingarm for a 83 KX 500, a new pair of shocks for a RM 125 B, a complete gearbox for a YZ 465, a muffler for a RM 125, 3 new billet wheel spacers, inlet manifold spacer and clutch arm actuator extension for a YZ 465, 4 original MR MOTOCROSS 84,85,86,87 posters hard mounted, original advertising brochure for a YZ 125 H and next week a set of forks for a RM 125 B

It makes me laugh when I see people trying to sell second hand side covers and guards ;D

Love your work! This is what I like about the ozvmx community, people who are [repared to help other guys out so that they can get bikes out there on the track again. whether it is through the generosity of giving away parts or selling parts or passing on info on the how ,where and why of rebuilding bikes. Thanks Ted look forward to catching up one day. Nipper.
