I'm right in thinking it's an '84 not an '81 as described?
Might have another crack at it.

The missing pipe worries me given the condition of the rest of the bike.

My current 83´s 495 pipe is crap, but a guy here with magic hands is making one for me. He already made this one for me for another bike. The sound and performance are spectacular. I can hardly wait to get it and try it in my 495 !.
