That is a very nice XR but did you see the invoice for a top end rebuild. I better get back into motorcycle repairs ;D

If the $418 labour includes a rebore (as stated on invoice), then to remove the motor from the frame ( please correct me if im wrong, but i think you cant remove the top end off an xr in the frame ?), strip top end, bore cylinder, clean all gasket surfaces, check and measure everything, replace piston assembly, reassemble, set valve clearances, points, etc and refit to frame and fire up, then i dont think its too bad. Most shops around here are charging $85 +gst per hour= $93 an hour- for labour. It doesnt take long as we all know for the hours to disappear. My local auto machine shop charges $66 for a rebore, (which i think is very reasonable), so assuming Gold Coast MC sent the cylinder out for a bore then the labour come down to around $350, and if you arent lucky enough to be able to do the work yourself then i think its cheap. Even $90 for a psiton kit is cheap.

Yes you can take the top end off the motor without removing engine from bike and to do a top end ,im sure Stan could knock it over in an hour or two tops.
