Would like a YZ250 ignition to suit either a C, D, or E. Pay cash or swap for IT250 ignition.
Thanks Neil

Anybody got one?

The IT has a flywheel, correct? This means it has a fat tapper as oppsed to the thin one for the internal rotors like the E.
I am not sure about the C, I think it had a fat tapper the same as a flywheel.
The E wont work unless you change the crank.
Why do you want to change the IT anyway, flywheel give better torque & midrange. Not so peaky too!

Ive got an NOS CDI wrongly advertised as fitting a C. PM me if you are interested.

I thought the D and E had the same engine and it changed for the F with the smaller taper.
-
E definitely small taper, not sure of D

Just looked on parts list for YZ C, D, E and they all have same part number crank and picture shows small taper. The IT250D has same part Number but picture shows larger taper. So what I am after is a larger taper CDI that is a inner rotor type. So maybe I need a DT250/400 cdi or something. Can anyone help tell me what I need.
Cheers Neil

Hi Neil
I've been watching this thread and haven't commented until now. You've done a great job with this project, well done.
I own and race a YZ250D .. I absolutely love the bike. Aside from other racing mods, one of the things I did was put a proform pipe on it to help smooth out the power delivery because it's like a 125 on steroids.
I'm telling you this because I think you should try your bike with the standard IT external flywheel first before changing the ignition over to YZ. In my opinion the standard IT ignition will smooth out the power delivery and make the bike more rideable.
Cheers

Agree, I would stick to the IT unless your a gun rider & can stay on the pipe.
I have a YZ250F & love it but have done heaps to try & get more low down & mid range grunt. Exactly what the IT will give you.
Power out of the corners, through the bog etc. is more important than quick reving & outright power.

no the E motor is completely different it the first of the new generation motors that followed with the 250/400 F 's

motomaniac is right up to the "D" in 77 they where all the large taper the "E" and later smaller . the open class engines had the same taper but the plate was smaller .
Iain . PS I would start with the IT system not quite as peaky and flywheel wait is a plus .

the it250 d 1977 crank is the same as yz250 d 1977 what you need is a yz250 d flywheel and electrics, the it250 uses the same flywheel and electrics as yz400 d and e ,not sure when they changed to smaller crank but you can use up to yz250 h crank and electrics in the yz250 d cases ,i have used 250 h crank electrics in a 74 dt 250 motor
