I bought this PE250C just to have down the back of the shed as a spare and for a mate to have a go on, but now that it's here and I've had a ride, I'm starting to get keen on really getting it sorted.
Has anyone got any recommendations for reasonably priced shocks?
I'm thinking a set of Works shocks but am open to suggestions for any diamonds in the rough. ;D
Any words of wisdom for me?
P.S. I'm thinking of a budget under 500 bucks........ :-\

Airshox? Rebuild kits are fairly cheap and it's a diy job if the chrome is good

I reckon you could get some chinese ones for under $500.00 ;D
I got some works shocks for $600.00 inclued postage from the states and very happy with them ;)

Dewy's 175 that i rode at Harrow last year had a pretty new set of Hagons fitted, Dewy doesnt like em as he says they're "too spongy" but i actually really liked the plush ride they gave. Wouldnt recommend them for mx use but would be fine for the average vinduro loop.

Everyone will bag me but for a good cheap shock I have used Progressive (made in Mexico), they aren't adjustable in damping and aren't nitrogen pressurized but I have used them on my RM125B race bike and have a set for an emergency spare for my KX250 (painted in S&W colours).
I only paid $180, brand new, for the pair off ebay, I don't care if they only last a year at that price, they do have a 12 month warranty though.
They were a little underdamped on the RM but I feel the damping rates are perfect on the KX.
Flame suit on!

Tony, I will give you a pair off a 77 RM 125 B for free. You just pay for postage. They have only had the one ride on them. If you go back thru the for sale section , page 5 ( rm 125 b incl.spares ) There is a couple of pics of John ( on second page ) riding with them. John fitted them prior to selling me the bike. Cheaper than $ 500 ;D
These are the ones John referred to above

Thanks fellas.
Here's a thought, if they're not gas charged but rebuilable, I can tune them myself with different weight oil. ???
Are Progressives rebuildable?
I should also clarify that I weight 100kg and tend to hit things fairly hard...........
Take this wheel as an example............. :-[

Do ya reckon they'd cope with me, Ted? :D
Might be worth a look though and if they're no good for me, I can just post them back.
I'll send ya a pm.
Thanks.

You can't go past Works Performance. They are a better shock than anything else in their price range and they last forever. I'm using a couple of pairs of the finned alloy bodied shocks on my race bikes that were made in the 70's and are still perfect after a service.

I don't think Progressive are meant to be rebuildable but I just had my stock KX shocks re-chromed, new oil, seals & gas (by Rodney at Rad Suspension) and they aren't meant to be rebuildable either.
I am 85kg and I thought the Progressive's were a touch too light for me on the RM125, even though I was happy to race with them; VMX tracks are pussy smooth ;-)

Don't send them back. Stick them on a pogo stick.
I have just had a set of Ohlins made.

What's with the Stanley Bros Wines sponsorship Tony.........In my drinking days I sacrificed many a brain cell over a budget cask of Stanley 'Dry White'.
-
Different 'Stanleys', Firko.
This was Stanley Brothers as opposed to just Stanleys.
Can't believe you got those confused........... ::) :D :D
-
I'll have the RM ones if they aren't suitable Tony.

No worries, Texx.
I'll give them a shot and if they're no good for me, I'll sell them to you for a good price.......... :D :D :D
