Title: The Things You See When You Don't Expect
Post by: BAHNZY on February 22, 2013, 04:57:17 pm
Was at a mates shop the other night and got talking to this bloke, who had another shop a couple of doors down, and as usual the conversation turned to old dirt bikes. Was then that he said he had an old Honda sitting in the back of his shop that he started to work on some time back but had run out of interest and time. I pushed him a bit further and eventually had a squiz at the bike.

He wasn’t all that keen on me talking about it or letting me take a photo so I got this rough picture off when he wasn’t looking. In the end I couldn’t work out if he knew what it was or if it was just an old dirt bike that took his fancy.
To me it looks like a tarted up CR450/480 with an early model 250 tank fitted.

Did you buy it from him?  ;D

Where is the thread with the story about the '82 ME480 sponsored bike?  Might be that bike since it has the coke bottle swingarm.  What did the shock reservoir and forks look like?

So you were not tempted to go out on a limb and make an offer on the bike? Ally tank i would not have been able to resist...

I can't believe that whether Steve McQueen was cool or a wife basher has had more interest than this post

IT's a bit of a mixed bag,the swingarm looks the goods & the castrol decal looks like it's the right vintage,The tank is nothing like a 78/79 CR250 one & the one in the pic has a plastic tank, the seat also has the high GP style about it,it also has a disc front end & big pegs,It's either the real deal with a few wrong bits or a mock up :),I'd still have it though ;)

The rear brake looks the goods to me. I'm not sure but I dont think the standard bike had full floating?

Smed, not sure what tank you refer to, but the pic of the bike that I looked definitely has an alloy tank. The bike does have a disc front end, but there was a twin leader front end on the ground that had lower legs like I've never seen before. I'm not sure if I'll get to see the bike again as I've been told that the owner is a "character" and can be difficult.

Sorry Bahnzy,I meant the bike in the Revs mag pic has a plastic tank, maybe it's just the angle from your belt buckle spy camera :D but i cannot see the front mounts for the 78/79 250 tank,I wonder if it's this bike?

Very interesting. Engine and frame numbers would have told the story. Would it be Darren's bike by chance?
