Title: Mikuni 40 on 81 490?
Post by: ola_martin on February 12, 2013, 12:12:23 am
Hello.
I have a 81 490 minus the carb.
I don't have a 38, but I have a couple of good 40mm VM's, has anyone tried, and does it work?

Or what about a modern PWK flatslide 38??

The 40 (Bing I presume) would work fine on the 490 Martin. As far as the PWK flatslide, it'd no doubt work well but the racing legality depends on your country's rules. It's not legal for Evo here in Oz.

Ola,
Go with the Bing, maybe the later 1983 Maico 490 Bing with choke and tickler and set it up the piston port 81-82.

Thanks.
I don't have a Bing, only 36mm anyway. So the 40 I asked about was the Mikuni VM roundslide.
And the reason I asked about the Keihin PWK 38, is that I can get a new one super cheap (under half of a Bing), and it wouldn't be illegal here, so if that works well I'll go for that?

those 40mm roundslide mikunis are great carbs
i run them on my kx500s and my big bore rm500
i took a pwk 38mm off to try this carb and the improvement was great
easy to start and good power spread through the rev range
do it ;D ;D ;)
