in victoria you loose 3 points ,when do you get them back

not sure in vic, but in SA you get them back 3 years from the date you lost them

What'd you get pinged for Paul? I've only got 3 points left myself but I should get another three back sometime soon. These days I control my natural tendency to drive too fast by listening to the little lady inside my GPS who's pretty reliable at telling me when I'm exceeding the speed limit. The speed camera beeps are pretty handy too.

YOu actually start with NO points, you accumulate demerits which are recorded and stay listed for your entire "career" on our lovely roads, when you get to 12 in New South for example the generally count back 36 mths but CAN count back 40mths (read the legislation), 99% of time they count back 36mths but can and do get nasty some times, we get to accumulate 13 as normal riders/drivers but if can prove you are a professional full time driver you can accumulate 14 (thanks Mr Gay!), once you hit 12 you get a letter threatening you to be nice or else! I liked it when it was 2 years count back, but i guess they are getting the road toll down with this sort of stuff and better cars, God knows the roads arent much better!

Far as I know if you behave for ten years records are deleted. Not real sure.
Re.---beeps, Back in the early days of radar my 'Diamond Dot' radio in my EH beeped when there was radar about. The beeps anoyed me 'till I realised what caused them!

The ones you go to court for stay with you ::)
The others go after three years. You can get a print out from the RTA for about eight bucks.

They only don't show on your RTA printout as they usually only go back 3 years.I've been listening to scanners for over 15 years and when police do a traffic history on someone they can go back longer than 10 years so most records stay longer than 10 years wether you go to court or not.

I have had two RTA print outs what I needed for mine jobs they show up all the history for me back 23 years,I only had four fines and RTA charge $20 bucks or so in NSW ( but it was 12 years between fines so they dont clear after 10 years pancho )

I'm sorry. I don't sit in a little room listening to police scanners waiting for the door to cave in.

what sort off scanner do you have my old one doesnt work any more since they change there frequencys to digital (i think)

I don't sit in a cave either the scanners have been in trucks and cars since driving is my job I would rather rely on what I hear from police or fire brigade rather than the normal dribble on ufh.The scanners were and still are built into the uhf radios I have had installed in trucks or cars.Some of the newer ones have extra recieve channels and the older ones were commercial radios that had to be programmed by the user,when your on the road as a full time job they become quite handy.But now with all the police especially in NSW being digital it can't be done on a normal uhf anymore.

You can buy digital scanners from dick smith but are pretty pricey.In QLD most of the police and all of the fire brigade are still on uhf some are on digital but most are still on the old frequencies.Not sure if the digital scanners will even pick up the police as most of there frequencies are scrambled but you can modify them to do it.

It still begs the question why.
I spent a huge chunk of my life running the Hume and I can understand back then needing them as everybody was up to no good. Those days are gone (thank God).
Listening in to police scanners is a little of a sick voyeurism to me. Either that or you're up to no good........

Not up to no good not really sick either mostly fire brigade I listen to as you here more from them than from police and I've been playing around with radios for over 30 years both uhf and hf the scanners are just part of it spoken to people all over the world people on boats cruising the world its just one of my hobbies.but the uhf and scanners have been quite handy for my work.I got bit by the old cb bug when I was 13 on one of my uncles old am cb's when he came to visit one christmas and it grew from there I also have radios that can recieve commercial air lines.I just become interested in the whole radio thing.

Police digital radio channels are encripted to prevent scanners being used. Motorola are contracted to provide equipment and services, and due to the nature of certain jobs Police attend, that is why they arent accessible by most scanners. While 99% of the population do the right thing, and radio buffs use their scanners etc for their perfectly legitimate hobbies, there are also the pricks ut there that are up to no good-the same ones who wouldnt think twice about breaking into our sheds and taking off with our beloved bikes and whatever else they can get there filthy hands on. It is also true what someone pointed out that you can get valuable up to the minute information from scanners, especially where bushfires, floods etc are concerned, and i dont doubt information gained from them could even save lives or property.

Right on the two above posts re Radio in general and scanners in particular, EA and I have been Amateur Radio Operators and Marine Radio Ops for many years, VK2NEA and 2FAE respectively, scanners are permanently on, one dedicated to the RFS channel one general, Aircraft, Cops Ambos, NPWS,Forestry, they keep us up to date about what's happening in our area, sorta news as it happens.
For 21 years EA and I ran a Limited Coast station, VH2RKI and did night standby for the local Coastal Patrol, on 27 meg. VHF and HF. We were on watch for the '98 Hobart and have assisted many vessels in one way or another.
Here at the River, it's a UHF black hole for VKG and the Ambos, on the day after Boxing day, we had to support old mate, who had pitched his K100 down the road bigtime, for 45 minutes until the troops got to us, they had no Comms, we were able to help.
We are not up to no good or voyeuristic, it's just another hobby, amongst a few others

I found it to be quite helpful in the last couple of weeks with the floods quite recently with flooded roads around my area as I'm located in between the Logan and Albert rivers,Albert river being only about 500m from my house even helped hold a car from being washed down a creek with 2 people in it until the fire brigade got there.The car tried to cross a flooded creek behind Windaroo high school one of the people that live there threw a rope to it wich was tied to the door pillar and a few of us held it until the firies got there.The water had already washed the car off the bridge.

I once knew three extremely dodgy (and nasty) brothers who were into everything illegal from robbing banks to selling drugs through to knee capping non paying punters for SP bookies. One Friday night at the pub, these three and a few more pub patrons were standing by one of the brothers Ford Transit listening to the scanner broadcasts of police chasing down the culprits from an earlier liquor warehouse robbery. The brothers were pissing themselves with laughter at the on air action as they unloaded the Transit of the case after case of booze....the proceeds of that very robbery. The irony is that they hid their stash in the cellar of the pub, paying off the publican with a percentage of the booty.
I think that situations like that are good enough reasons for the police to go digital and therefore more difficult to listen to.

Why Paul?....I'd assume that you mean "no" for pre 65? Those leading axle fork legs came on the Maicoletta and Maico SS 250/360, GS 175/250/360 and MC 175/250/360 prior to 1965 according to Frank Ronicke's Maico bible. I'm intending using them myself so if you've got some hot info on why they're illegal you'd better tell Mick and I before we build our oval barrel pre 65ers ;D.

One of the reasons the Police and RFS etc are going digital is finite spectrum space.

Back to demerit points... (well Maicoletta scooters may earn you cred demerits... ;)) What have I done wrong, having not racked up any demerits for over 25 years I was forced to pay only 50% of the renewal fee for my next ten year driving/riding license. Bugger. Sometimes I believe I must be some sort of bottom feeding crawler... :D Cheers Tim754
