hi all, I am looking for some comment regarding the color of Marzocchi forks on the early KTM's in the country. After KTM moved from 35mm Cerianni to 35mm Marzocchi, 1976 etc, I have seen some examples of Orange (later MC5 1979 etc) and also black. The bike i am restoring is a 1976 GS, with Orange frame (one of the first orange ones) but it didnt come with genuine forks. Question: Black or Orange ? ???

Have a look here, www.vmxktm.net It appears as if the GS's didn't get any leading axle forks until about '79, go to photo's and vidoes in the main menu.
Do you have a photo of the forks on it now, someone might be able to I.D. them.

the boss has a set of early marzocchi on it and they are just normal polished ali ?
if your trying to restore it to be something original can you find the original brouchure or press release somewhere, must be on the net by now ?

Thanks guys, the plot thickens, which is usually half the fun ;). some further research on www.ktmvmx.com.au (magazine tests) and www.pentonusa.org (details on the production year) shows a 1977 mx with black leading axle marzocchi, 1976 mc250 with orange marzocchi, a 1977 GS250 (GS6) with black leading axle marzocchi and also some euro pics (GS340) with polished cerianni, and also a 1976 trail and track test on the GS250 showing polished AL cerianni and the penton guys saying the 1976 cross country came with the orange frame, red tank either had cerianni or marzocchi??
[PS: Forks on the bike look like they have come off a bultaco, noted by brand on bolts, shocks are S&W from a Honda?,, which would suggest the original owner couldnt afford KTM parts either back then??? some things dont change.. ::)]
