has anyone fitted up a dg silencer to there yamaha yz250h 81 model and found that the bottom nut and spacer will not fit between the frame and silencer.....any suggestions or tips on something that ive missed or dont worry about using it altogether.... :-\

Hi Andrew, I have a 250H and a DG silencer. Are you talking about the ali lug on the under side of the pipe of the silencer? And are you trying to bolt your silencer on in 2 places? The DG silencer just bolts on to the frame via the top of the silencer. Make up rubber bungs that go into the hole in the bracket on the silencer, put a little steel sleeve through so the bolt can go through and use cap washers. The little bracket on the bottom of the silencer may have to be cut down a bit and it is for put a spring on to connect the main pipe and silencer together.

thanks djracing..yes i was tryin to bolt it up in two places...my main concern was the bottom ali lug on the under side of the silencer....so i just give it a miss altogether and just tighten up the top bolt and bobs your uncle... 8)

Glad ta hear it Andrew. Make sure that the side covers dont touch the pipe. A nufty little idea is to wrap the pipe with exhaust wrap and go to your local motobike shop and ask the mechanics if they have any of the silver material heat shield stuff that is on alot of 4x4 bikes. It always seems to fall off the 4x4's and if they have any grab it(wash it) and glue it to the inside of the sidecover for extra protection. Use ados F2 glue. Exhaust sidecovers are getting rear and expensive so the more ya can look after them the better. Well just a thought anyway. Good luck

thanks dj....this is a nice little tip....id just put the new dc plastic sidecover on and havin heaps of trouble gettin the top screw on where the muffler goes but it wont fit....whats the go...did you have any trouble fitting your cover onto the dg silencer....its even happening with the old original one... ???

Andrew can you take a picture of the problem so we can figure out what you need to do.
-
All mounting lugs are used (see picture) you just have to have the right mounting brackets and socket bolts for the sidecover mounts

Fanastic Andrew, she looks great but you shouldnt have posted the pic because now you have made me feel guilty about not working on my YZ250H ;) When do you think you are going to start her up and take her to heaven and back? ;D
Very nice job though Andrew.
-
thanks dj.im glad you like it...its taken three hard long years to get it lookin like a dream...but when your got a mortgage and a couple of kids it just makes it so hard...iits still not finished ive still got a few little things to take care of like the muffler bolts and so on but yer she starts up ok but i havent taken her for a ride yet....maybe this weekend.... ;D

Nice job Andrew, they are a good looking model, no wonder they are sought after ! i had the next model YZ250J and loved it at the time, those things sold like pizza and beer, every one had one in Victorian MX circles that year!
-
great looking bike , are they 465 forks you have fitted? after looking at your project i want my 250 g the same condition. keep up the good work CHEERS. ;D ;D
-
thanks bonehead...its a yz250H 81 model but its got the g model tank seat and front guard.dont ask me why it might be darryl shotgun willoughbys ex racer ???. but thats how it was when i first bought it for $500 and mind you it was a total mess.the forks are 43mm but i think they are stock standard items for that model.the rear shock is a 465H item though. its my first ever resto and vmx bike but im still not 100% happy with the outcome of what it looks like.... ;D
-
ANDREW thats my 250 g in the corener it use to have 38mm forks but i have since put in 43mm forks, my mate has a 250 h and it has 465 43mm forks that protrude through the top tree like yours do , my forks are original 250h gear and are shorter in length and do not protude anywhere near as far , what do you mean your not happy with it , mines a racer ,do you plan on racing it or looking at it ;D ;D
-
im pretty sure that the h model went 43mm up from the 38mm g model.but i could be wrong ive only got the owners manual for the 250 and 465g model.i know that the 465g and h had both 43mm but there brake set up was a twin leading design....maybe my old mate dj racing might be able to shed some light on this subject he has helped me out before with heaps of info....oh the resto will be both a racer and a looker by the way..... ;D
-
yes thats correct they went up from 38mm g to 43mm h but i think the 465 were a longer fork , great news that its a racer, where you from , love to see it running , and more pics as it nears completion. cheers bonehead
