Yes I remember staring at the pictures of him and his bike in Two Wheels magazine when I was a kid.  The name Widomaker always stuck in my mind.

There's a lot more to EJ Potter than the Chevy drag bike. He's one of those unique one offs that come along way too rarely. If you ever get a chance to get a hold of his biography read it. It's one of the best motorsports bio's I've ever read. As well as the Widowmaker bikes he built and raced a bunch of Alison v12 aeroplane powered drag cars and in his later years tractor pulling vehicles. My favourite for weird kookiness is the electric Morris 1100 he built using a Westinghouse electric traction motor from a suburban railway train. The motor took up nearly all of the little 1100 and to power it he had an Alison V12 driven generator and a big long extention lead on big rolls (see photo) that unravelled as the car proceeded down the strip at 150mph plus.....and then there was the Pratt and Whitney jet powered trike or the Alison V12 powered Valiant station wagon........find the book, you won't regret it. Have you still got the book Mick, it's sadly out of print and I'd like to read it again.

Firko
Sorry for getting that book misplaced over the years you did tell me is was a boomerang. Last lent too Turbo who begged to borrow it and against my better knowledge ( he has a black hole at his house that swallows things lent) He was the last to have it. I will ask him again to find it.

Nothing to do with this bike but I remember as a kid there was a Leyland p76 v8 powered bike that used to race at Castlereagh drags.Maybe his idea came from this bike the bike was blue from memory.

That last photo of the bike is seriously cool , the expression on EJ's face is classic.
