Title: FREE 'come & try' day at Broadford March 2
Post by: John Orchard on January 24, 2013, 07:29:34 pm
There has been a state-wide 'come & try' day called by MV for March 2,  I still need to confirm with Mitchell Commitee but I think we may co-ordinate the MX track at Broadford for this day.

Looks like Permits & 12 month recreation licences are free on this day, so the day should be free!

I'll confirm everything with MV and come back to you guys.

If Mitchell run the day on the MX track, we run it as we normally do with the following classes ....

Under 16, up to 85cc
Under 16, 125 2-stroke & 250 4-stroke
Over 16, novice & old-timers
Over 16, racers/fast.

Looks like Mitchell Club will be running this day, MV just advised me that the permit will be free, there will be no-charge for the track hire and first-aid will be supplied free.

Non licenced riders that sign-up for a 'come & try' licence will ride free and a free 12-month recreation licence will be sent to them after the event once the MV office has processed the paperwork.  Already licenced (race & rec) riders will have to pay a $5 insurance levy.

I think that 'come & try' licence holders are not allowed to ride with current licence holders so we will have to split those classes.

We (mitchell club) are looking for as many other clubs to assist us on this day, I think we will run a flag-marshalling roster as per our usual days out there but might like a couple of people needed to take over the sign-on desk at midday so those working it in the morning can have a ride in the arvo.

Apparently this is a nation-wide free 'come & try' event, so you guys interstate better get on it  :-)

Hmmm Free Rec licence eh!
What sort of strings will be attached? (how free is free?)

Will this be the Saturday?
If so that will make it hard as it will be the day before 3 bridges.

As far as I know, sign-on starts at 9.00am, 'come & try' riders ride for free, any rider with a rec or race licence pays $5 insurance levy (MA 'come & try' licences are insurance inclusive).

'come & try' day licence holders are not permitted to ride with rec or race licence holders.  I expect the day to be split into the following groups ...

Junior come & try
Junior rec & race licenced
Seniors come & try
Seniors rec & race licenced

If a lot of riders show then each Juniors session will be split into 'up to 85cc' and '125 & 250' and Seniors sessions split into 'race' & 'recreation' licence holders.

For riders taking-out a 'come & try' licence on the day, if you've NEVER previously held a race or 12-month recreation licence, you will be sent a free 12-month recreation once the paperwork for the day has been processed.

There are a few clubs helping run the day, but more volunteers are always welcome.

Harley Club are running 'come & try' on the dirt-track and the regular MV roadrace ride day cew are running 'come & try' on the roadrace track.

Ok I've just been asked by MV to produce some guidelines on how this Saturday's event is going to work, sign-on will start at 8.30am, as this day is to attract never-licenced riders to the sport, all riders with a race or 12-month recreation licence will be asigned a flag-marhalling time-slot (just like Mitchell days for anyone that's ridden at them in the last 12 months).  I know a few riders might say "fark it" but that won't be such an issue as we want to focus on newbies on this day, not for the day to be taken-over by racers.

In the next 15 min I will draw-up a schedule of the on-track sessions and give you the mail first :-)

Motorcycling Victoria (and me) would appreciate if any of you guys could drop out and give a hand for a couple of hours to give some newbies some track-time.

Remember, if you've NEVER held a race licence or a 12-month recreation licence, you will be sent a free 12-month recreation licence just for taking part in the days riding.  If you've NEVER held an open or 12-month rec licence you are eligible to apply for an open race licence for only $120, I think that's less than half price!
