The bike is currently getting a slight upgrade with billet adjustable triple clamps, shorter RD fork legs, shorter 13" Chinese cheapie shocks and RT2MX barrel/ACK head.

Shown is my Benelli 650 engine mocked up in my experimental Trackmaster frame made for an XS650 Yamaha motor. The small photo shows the engine in a 4130 chro-mo frame I bought from a guy in Texas for $40 which is well designed but poorly welded. I'm intending to clean up the welds and use this frame as I don't want to have to chop out the bottom rails to clear the sump on my 'good' Trackmaster frame. I'm using Morris magnesium wheels, the front, a from a Harley XR750, THE 18" rear reputetedly from a Kawasaki Z1 superbike. I'm using R6 Yamaha 41mm forks and Chinese Ohlins rear shocks. I'd like to have this bike finished for next years series. In the meantime I'll get an XS650 Yammy motor and slow and steadily build up the Trackmaster using 19" Yamaha wheels as shown in the photo.

This is the Suzuki TS powered TM I built out of left over junk as a project bike for VMX a few years ago. It's been sitting ever since so we've decided to turn it into a low budget short tracker for my mate. The steering head will be brought in to 25 degrees and Champion bodywork and Honda CX500 wheels fitted....all shit laying around the shed, just as it was in its original rebirth as a motocrosser. A few different mates are contributing to the project and the buzz that Nepean is introducing short track for these bikes as well as SON's proposal might shake up the project.

Alan Jones Redline replica framed 850cc Nourish Weslake. Alan's had the bike for years but has never quite finished it. It's now getting new engine plates and some wheel and tyre updates for its debut at the HBBB at Easter

Alans 1999 ATK FT that the original owner in Georgia used to win the AMA Singles class#1 plate in 2002. It's got all of the expected Wood, Axtell, Venolia, Megacycle, Carillo internals and a 44mm Mikuni . The bike's had some shakedown runs at Nepean on 10 year old tyres and it absolutely hooted.
-
I forgot about my rigid framed '64 KR250 Maico that's currently enroute from America. I'm going to give this little puppy a "rustoration"at first. I'll just sort out the mechanicals and get it running enough to cut some skids and sort out whether a resto is the right way to go with it. As they say, they're only original once 8).

Thomas Thompson's Triumph Redline photographed at Amaroo Park DT in the 90's. He used it for everything and it even went surprisingly well at motocross. I know Thomas doesn't own the bike any more but it's been seen at Nepean with its current owner in recent times.

Lots of great photos,
I will get a photobucket account tonight,
What do you need to finish the TM??
-
All lovely bikes,.... but the ATK just pushes the right bits for me!
It would look even better without the front disc IMO.
I reckon you might be enjoying all of this Firko.
-
I forgot the big Wessie,... beautiful.

Dunno whether this qualifies as a Flat Tracker, it's close, and I have posted the pic yonks ago
(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab106/JAP454/FlatTracker.jpg)
Built in the early '80s, so I'd have something to ride when we took our son, Brian and his KX80 over to Fairbairn.
It was built out of some of the twisted remains of Bro Jim's road race bike, motor is a YZ400E, frame is DT250, forks and front wheel is XS, pipe is by Chris Dowd and the seat was a boat tail jigger, on methanol and M , of course.
It frightened the crap out of some of the young blokes at Canberra on their Goddens and 490s, it also frightened the crap out of it's rider from time to time as the terminal speed at Canteen was wicked and ya had ta brake REAL hard as it didn't like being backed in but when the wheels were in line, all the sucker wanted to do was wheel stand. Lotsa fun, but

But do you still have it Foss?

Unfortunately I dont, but it shows ya what you can do !!

Yeah I do, I've had a love of these bikes since going to Ascot Speedway for the first time one Friday night back in 1975. Alex Jorgenson won the show that night on the legendary Ron Wood Norton and I was instantly hooked. In my seven years in the US I tried to attend as many meetings that fit in with my odd work hours but hardly ever missed a San Jose Mile. I've owned Champion framed Honda XL350 and Yamaha SC500 framers as well as the ones I've got now.
What do you need to finish the TM??
Parts wise not a lot, it's mainly down to labour and getting a game plan into action. I've got a new Circle F pipe, the engine's pretty fresh...76 TS bottom end with a '73 TM top end, I've got a daggy old Champion tank and will use one of Matcho Micks XR750 style seats like on my Hindall 360. If no front brake is required it'll get Honda CX500 wheels with a rear disc or if front period brakes are needed we'll lace up a 19" TM Suzuki hub and use the stock TM250 rear. All of the hard work was done for the VMX magazine piece so it's just a tweak here and a tweak there to get it rolling.
Where's Freaky? He's been missing in action for a while. He's got a few pre 75 Champion and Trackmaster Yamahas. Ditto Yamaico Pete with his 465 Yamaha IZ465 and Mk8 Astro and Edgar Phipps Shell OW79 750 Yamaha and my old Champion framed SC500. I look forward to seeing your bikes SON. It sounds as if you've got some interesting tackle.

I'll be stuck in Vietbloodynam.... Gotta get a new job.
Are you there now Pete? It won't be the same without you and Jackie but think of the big dollar payout when you eventually retire! That's all that kept me going through the final years ::)
I guess Vietnam's better than being in there amongst the gun totin' residents of Butte Plugge, Idaho or out on the icy tundra in an Uzbekistan winter. Keep the head up and think of that retirement mancave my friend.
-
Just back from work in Tassie Mark - off to Vietnam on Tuesday. Got the SGP in NZ booked in though, won't be missing that.
Picked up an RD350 for $0 that I was hoping to turn into a budget flattrack twin...
-
... which will no doubt be a beauty! Can't wait to see it Pete.
-
Bugger...I've been looking for a pair of RD forks, any spares? I reckon an RD would be a fun thing. How long in Vietnam? With big Rossco (Rossvickicampbell ) (http://Rossvickicampbell )) in Laos and Yamaico Pete in 'Nam we've got SE Asia covered. You two should get together over a '33 Export'.

Let's not forget AJ's factory Carabela 125 short tracker ;D

If all of this comes to fruition there's a fighting chance we will see one of these cool as penguin piss Sonic framed Yammy's here. I've got access to a frame in the US and I've got all of the rest. Mine will be a black tanked 360 though.

That make your eyes lite up slides?
-
Here is one I prepared earlier. I have since discovered that the bike is much faster than me. So I'm currently working on a XT 500 for DT purposes that shouldn't scare me as much!!

-
Sorry Punchy I've only just noticed your previous comment.
Although I have a soft spot for the T500 & 250 deep down I'm a 4 stroke man, I've had a fair bit of time to think over the last 12 months, dangerous, and I'm gunna cull a few projects including the T20 250 Flattracker.
That is one sweet XS, where is that photo taken?
-
Will you be at HBBB at Easter Flattracker? I missed seeing the bike in living colour last year but remember it in primer the previous year. I'll have my little 360 Yammy Fasttrac....no room on the trailer for any other stuff.
-
I am hopping to get to Broadford, but alas not to ride. I have had a shit start to the year with three lots of neurosurgery so far, but I seem to be on the mend now. If I get there I will be sure to say gday.
-
Sorry to hear that, I hope you're on the mend. I missed last year because it was the beginning of my year of shit-healthwise. I'm reasonably OK now so I hope you soon can be too.
-
Ditto Flattracker, hope the recovery continues to go well.
-
It's good to see your well enough to tap the keyboard Nick iv'e told that bikes too nice for the track hope to see you at easter if not before were racing this weekend try and con the missus to drive you up
Cheers Steven.
-
I'll do my best to get up this weekend and catch up for a chat. Thanks for the kind wishes everyone.
-
Why not bring the bike along and put it on display. Seeing we're trying to promote these bikes it would be good to show what you can do with a stock frame when its done properly. You've displayed your Maicos in the past so why not bring the big girl. ;D I'm sure you've got some mates that can do the heavy lifting for you.
-
A Tidy 650/750 from down south that caught my eye.
Hope your doin OK Nick.

That's an unusual tank.....I wonder what it's off? Interesting bike.

Follow the fuel line in the 2nd pic ;)

Follow the fuel line in the 2nd pic
H'mmm, even more interesting. I wonder what his thinking is? If the fuel is in the tail or under the seat I'd presume it'd throw the weight bias out a bit ???.

Jim Garvey just sent me some other photos of the 650 Triumph dirt tracker with Yetman frame that is on the way to him from the USA.
http://www.eurospares.com/graphics/Yetman/
and the file names start with "YetmanTriumph650JG".
cheers,
