This was a prick act of the first order. Here was I thinking that the vintage brotherhood was a seperate entity to the real world, inhabited by good honest people who respect other folks stuff. Now it seems that there are scumbags among us. I sincerely hope that the thief is caught and that he is from outside of our community. If as I suspect he is one of us, I am deeply ashamed and disapointed.
Despite Petes hard luck,he did take out the inaugural Klub Kevlar bling award with his too cool Husky Viking.

I sincerely hope that it wasn't anyone in the fraternity. Having been taken from the motel there is a good chance that it was an opportunist local.
Lets hope that the thief quickly realises the 'score' is more of an 'albatross' and quickly dumps it unharmed and unmolested.
-
Give me 5mins with the low-life, him and arse wipe the knocked off Doc's wallet. Just 5 mins with him. He wont steal again I assure you.
-
Quicky you will break a bone doing that mate and it will be yours :o
If you want a chance at getting your bike back get four of the biggest blokes you know and do a door knock in the local area and word will get around at the time of the door knock just say drop the bike off at some chosen address and if this is not done the bounty on the heads of the peoples involved will rise for every day the bike is missing. jimson >:(

As much as I'd like to believe that Petes Husky was taken by drug addled junkies, I think there was a bit more to it. The fact that the thieves broke into a locked enclosed trailer, cut a chain and specifically chose Petes '74 Mag Husky shows over his beautiful new 360 Husky Viking indicates to me that the he/they knew their stuff. If it was a spur of the moment, opportunist theft, Phil Youngs OSSA Phantom and Edgar Phipps ESO Metisse, Monark Triumph and 490 Maico were close by on open trailers, held on only by tie downs would have been far easier to steal. In my opinion this bloke specifically wanted a Mag Husky and knew where to find the best one in the sport.
Local Raymond Terrace business sources and Klub Kevlar security have started search and recovery action and a reward for the bikes safe return is being formulated as we speak. If anybody has the slightest inkling of who did this or has heard any rumours, please let Peter or myself know (anonymously if need be) and we'll endevour to follow up.
If the thief reads this, please consider the consequences of your deed. Husky Pete is a one of the most genuine people I've met in this sport and although he's a comparitive newbie, is well liked and respected by both the old schoolers and new guard alike. There is no more authorative and genuine Husqvarna collector in our sport and his legendary generosity has no peer. To do this to a fellow scumbag is bad but to do it to one of the sports true good blokes is unforgivable. Do the right thing and anonymously drop the bike off somewhere where it can be found and all will be forgotten. If you are found out with the bike in your possession the consequences won't be pretty.
Below is the only photo I have of the bike on file. It shows guest rider Magoo aboard it at the Wagga Dirt Track Nats last year.

Guys this was indeed one of the lowest acts I have seen! My fear now is the posibility of an organied theft whereby there may have possibly been an order for said bike from another country. I'd be hounding customs also with details and numbers as I somehow feel this bike maybe due to leave the country..no-one in their right mind would bring it out or advertise the fact they owned one when they are so rare. The theives could have easilly taken any number of bikes, all of the suzuki central stuff was on an uncovered trailer and ute and pretty lightly secured. These would have been much easier to take than a Husky locked and then locked in an enclosed trailer. They knew what they wanted alright and I'd near bet it was stolen to fill an order from OS. I maybe wrong but this is just the way I see it personally. Regardless of why and how, it is a lowlife act. The wallet going missing pales into insignificance when compared to losing such a beautiful bike. I'll certainly keep my ear to the ground for any little detail that maybe of assistance in recovering it.
edit, spot on Fiko..oops..Firko..you posted while I was typing :P all jokes aside everyone please keep an ear out and tell as many people as possible. It would be lovely if by some chance this bike could be returned to it's rightful owner.

Given those details I would agree; the theif came prepared and the Husky was targeted.
But the $45,000 question is why?, and where will it likely end up? I can't imagine the bike or parts will be sold or used within Australia. I can't imagine it would be so valuable to warrant it been stolen 'to order' for a collector here or overseas.
-
That's unbelievable. >:(
You can kind of understand an opportunist grabbing an bike out of a trailer, but it does indeed sound like these bastards knew what they were after.
I can't imagine that the bike could remain in one piece with so many eyes on the look out for it, so any parts for sale or freshly restored bikes should be looked at too.
Good luck gentlemen...............
-
pretty rare bike MX..very desirable especially in the US.. I believe the same model as Steve McQueen rode on many occassions..I dunno and I am not pointing the bone at anyone or country as obviously it was an Aussie scumbag who stole it! I have my suspicions it's all premeditated rather than an opportunist thing ..no matter what I have let people I know and deal with in the US in on the story also and they'll also have a closer look if they happen to spot anything remotely like it ;)
-
The more I here and read about this the more worrying it becomes. God help us all if this ( its looking like it) was a steal to order theft. Happens in the muscle world more often then you'd believe. Being such a rare bike and as Firko said taken when so many easiier targets could be found. I reckon this was planned hit with the theif knowing exactly what his target was.
Pete. I will keep my eyes peeled also. I certainly do hope this bike is returned to you soon.
-
THat is weird isnt it. i No nothing about huskies but to go to all that effort you would have to know them or be looking for it.
IF it was in the Klub compound at the track did you see anyone looking it over in a layed back fashion ? IS the bike from the same state as the event ?
if it was stolen to order they would have to A) had a picture of it ( did someone remeber chaps walking around with a Mag foto ?
or b) they came from his location and followed it up there usually they have seen it before. LAst bike i had stolen was cut from a locked garage bolted to a pilon. I found out a few years latter it was stolen to order and the guy that passed on i had one lived about 10 houses up. If they didnt come to CD5 on the off chance they would find one there, my guess is its somone in your state and this was an oppertunity for it to be out in the open.
I rarely tell people what i own any more or where i live, sad but you get paraniod after that kind of thing. Same as this event he went to a lot of trouble to cut it out and in my case not only cut it out but lift it over a car i had jammed in there at the time.
For what its worth - U need to Think back who you talked about going to CD5 prior, however obscure. if its an OS bike order there would be only 4-5 folks that would ship that out from the eastern seaboard, So you shouldn lodge a photo and details with customs, best you tell them you think is going O/S in a container, it might get them looking at any freight sheet listing bike parts also post up the numbers in the stolen section of these to at least make the motors un sellable and maybe the buyer might pull out

http://www.vintagemx.us/message_board/
http://www.vintagemx.us/cgi-bin/swapmeet.cgi?Z=&action=postad
i dont have the links but they do have stolen sections - i know marks does. Also there must be Husky forums and web pages ?
FWIW i think its still here and would be in your own state or that of the event held.
Keep your chin up, if its a rarer bike it will turn up one day it has too.
YOu should be prepared to wait it out though, make sure you right down all the characteristics it had, scratches, breaks, numbers, odd parts etc, when they turn up you need to referance that material because after a while you forget. I found out who took my bike 5 yrs later after someone said somthing that rung a bell. people cant keep secrets forever no matter how close they are to you.
Keep us posted.

Geez this has put real damper on what was otherwise a fantastic weekend. I'll let all I know around here to keep an eye out.It also serves as reminder that these pages are open for ANYONE to see.So might be wise to be generic with locations, personal details, where we stay etc etc.
Hope Pete is feeling better .
-
Very low act, lots of commission housing at raymond terrace, although shouldnt be pointing fingers in case it was someone from within the fraternity, which i hope is not the case, living in Newcastle, Ill ask all my customers for you Pete from the area to keep there ears open when i get home from brisbane this week, can only hope it turns up as its no good to them on the Australian scene >:(
-
I have sent a link of this page to some of the VMXer's in WA.
bring back the flogging in the town square.
-
Like so many others, I initially thought that it was some dead-beat, opportunistic local*, but sadly it seems much, much worse.
I'll certainly have my eyes open for it.
*fork me, Raymond Terrace is a dive. On Friday night we saw cops vs shirtless pissed locals biffo, got woken by drop-kicks early this morning, etc etc.
-
CD5 side, this is not the first time that this area has succembed to this type of activity. If my memory serves me right (and thats a stretch) was there not a whole bunch of specific bikes stolen from a Newcastle Supercrosss last year. I think that there may have also been a complete van stolen along with the bikes at an earlier Newcastle SX. I have a very good freind that follows the SX circuit in OZ and it seems that not an event goes by where a bike is stolen and the Newcastle event is considered the worst of the lot.
-
I had the only other bike of this type at CD5 and it was not shown any particular interest. It was lightly chained at night. Me staggering around next to it in the wee hours may have deterred any potential thieves.
Recently my shed was broken into and my old faithful KTM which I had owned for seventeen years was stolen. They removed all the covers on my VMXers but I believe didn't recognise any of the names,so took the KTM.I have tracked it down to its last location of Raymoond Terrace to a druggo. Then gone.
I believe(and hope) that this is what has happened to Pete's bike. The local lowlife have not recognised anything familiar or of immediate value in the other bikes, and decided to see what was in the box that was worth locking up?
The word is out to the locals to try and secure its return.Good luck in your search I feel for you buddy.
-
...................so took the KTM.I have tracked it down to its last location of Raymoond Terrace to a druggo. Then gone.
Sorry to hear this Moto, but i must ask, How did you manage to track it down to the druggo?
-
Sad news indeed ,I spoke to Pete on the phone this morning and he seemed typically upbeat. Peter's well known throughout Oz and for that mater the entire World in Husky circles ,he is as stated earlier is recognised as one of the premier collector 's and restorers of the mark and his bikes are a credit to his passion. Shit all this talk of bikes being nicked has put shiver up my spine. Regards Jimbo
-
about two months ago my dog chased someone out of my backyard 1.00am in the morning..couldnt sleep for a couple of nights after that ...the wife reckons she heard a couple bangs on the shed door before he ran out...bloody bastards :o
-
I second the sentiments about Pete, an absolute gentleman in every way. Hopefully we'll sort it out and maybe I've got more faith in the nature of my fellow VMXers, I just can't believe any of us would have targetted his bike. If so, why take the gear as well.
On the other hand, the locals I saw on Saturday weren't capable of walking, much less pushing a bike. Seeing there are bugger all suburban streets around the Motel I'd assume it was loaded onto a trailer or car.
-
Sorry to hear about the Husky Pete. This is one of my greatest fears, especially while staying at motels. Hope it turns up somewhere.
Geoff
-
does this change thiings for the national re: onsite provision Shane ?
-
I am shocked and pissed off too. The Lowlife .,Sadly if it turns out that it is someone from or trying to get into VMX when the scum is caught..and they must/will be... never ever let them near motorcycles again.
Could someone Please furnish details and maybe some unique visuals to keep watch out for if possible. Tim
-
By offering money(Reward) and asking people who deal with these lowlife. I found you were always a week behind the whereabouts of the bike. I finally tracked it to a lowlife address in R Terrace. and informed the police(it had been logged with the police as soon as it went missing). They cannot act on suspicion, and advised me not to put myself in danger by confronting these people. If I could positively identify the bike they would act.Great thanks for nothing. My friends and I are still on the lookout for my bike and I watch the classified and expect whats left of it to eventually turn up at a local swap meet.
The whole process is very time consuming and frustrating.
After this incident our lives have been changed. We now have chains, locks.lights, and alarms and a certain amount of paranoia, now they know whats in my shed will they return ?
Please keep your treasures secure. Its a hard lesson to learn.
-
Pete made mention of the Vintage Modificaton ,visually this is the rear downtubes runnig between the top rear shock mounts and the pivoit, these tube will have a dogleg offset only visual from behind the mounted rear number plates -this modification on a Mk frame is a indicator of Pete's bike along with the damage to the rhs crankcase above the output sharft. - If this 400 was parted out all cycle parts fit huskies no mater size of that era. regards Jimbo.
-
The frame number is on the right side bottom of the steering head and the engine number is stamped into the engine cases just above the left hand top screw that holds the magneto cover. It has betor alloy triple clamps, Öhlins 13” rear shocks with black springs, to suit the Vintage Husky frame modification. There is a broken engine fin on the left hand side about two or three from the bottom and the sprocket cover is broken on the right side level with the engine cases, the cylinder as been ported differently to a standard cylinder, the stub shaft that the kick stand slips onto has been cut off as well as the bottom part of the frame where the stub shaft is located, the seat cover is burnt on the left side at the front from the pipe. It has a re-sleeved bing carbie, number 69 number plates, gold renthal bars with renthal grips grey and red safety wired onto the bars, small alloy tank painted red with 400 cross sticker on the tank. The helmet is Arai custom paint job with a husky logo on top, blue and yellow with husky racing on the sides, the boots are black and red Alpinestars tech6. Thanks for all the support. Peter

I must admit I feel a bit bad about this - the bike was stolen from out front of our unit. I woke about 2.30 AM and lay there thinking about poking my head out for a look at the weather, but decided not to. In hindsight, it's possible I woke because I'd heard something. Geez I wish now I'd looked.
Anyway, here's some photos of the bike to help the search.

Greetings
I'm a new member & was reading about the stolen Husky. That really stinks. Although I live in the U.S. I will be keeping a look out for your Husky & so will alot of my vintage brothers. Your story has been posted on our vintage discussion boards so hopefully if it comes this way we can get it back to you. Here in the states, dirtbikes are stolen alot. Seems like alot of them are stolen from motels. Any time I stay at a motel I take my bikes in the room because I trust no one with my bikes. I really hope your story has a happy ending with you & bike reunited.

Sorry to hear about the theft of the Husky, Just a thought for the future has anyone thought about a national register for our bikes? as it may be a deterent for these type of scum if they know that we have a good handle on who owns what, plus it would give prospective buyers a chance to check to see if what they are buying is all above board Cheers Lou.

A good idea but I feel it would let the scum know where to look for what they want. The best we can do is keep our eye's & ear's open & be suss about anything going cheap.
While in the USA "Roey" lost his YZee out of a Econovan while at a track.
2 guys we met up with from Sydney, Gordon Bell & Mike ? bought a Diaper van to travel around in. They stored their bikes in the back & built some bunks into it where they slept most nights.
No one would have thought to have broken into it to steal it's load.

Grunthum, welcome and thanks for taking the time to visit our forum, reading this topic and posting your reply. It is a universal problem alrighty and something no-one can be assured any immunity from. I see the same theft occuring in the US with sometimes the whole shebang stolen..transporter gone, bike gone, gear, tools the lot! One of the lowest acts in my eyes after animal cruely. This makes me kind of a hypocrit because if I caught these 'animals' doing this thieving I'd be having them flogged mercilessly in public. >:(

Gotta be worth a try:

We got the forker, the eagle has landed. With the help of a few of the boys in the network we've got the bike back and it's at the Raymond Terrace Police Station even as we speak. The best news of all it was not an inside job but a local feral shitbag who through his own stupidity led to his downfall. It will still cost a reward but that's cool, the jobs done. I'M A PROUD MAN.
-
its the best news ive heard all day....top stuff :)
-
Good news Magoo 8) - now we just have to get Hilly's little CR back. Justy goes to show the power of the network we have on here.
-
Thats great news and even better it was someone on the outside good work.jimson
-
Hey Jimson, you're dead right. I had no doubt all along it wasn't one of us. We'll fill you all in on the finer details one day over a beer or two, it's been an interesting story to say the least.
-
Thats great news and even better it was someone on the outside good work.jimson
Could not have said it better myself!
-
that is great news! :)
an' a little wake up call for everyone that's fer sure! ;)
-
Excellent, great result.
-
I'd love to fill you guys in on the gory details but I simply can't over the net. It was a classic case of a few guys who got together with a local and a few mates in a point of influence. Nothing happened until we got onto the right bloke and within 2 hours, bingo, we gottcha.
I'm rapt, moreso because it wasn't one of us.
-
Top stuff, I am sooo happy for Pete, I'm getting ready for a 3 day SCAR tour I'll give you a ring on Tuesday Magoose. Did they get his riding gear back too ??????
-
YOU BEAUTY From WA
-
Shit Hot very very pleasing news!!! ;) Now all! The Young ladies little CR80 lets speedily try to right this lowlife wrong too! >:(

-
Best news I`ve heard all week, glad your getting your Husky back Peter.
-

-
Was she in one peice and undamaged magoo? Was gear recovered too?
-
Great news. We were pulling for you! Need to use the scumbag for the first corner berm. Good luck
-
Well done Magoo , good news indeed

great to hear !
-
Magoo email me with his name if he is coming to visit me and I can organise a welcoming party.
It's great that the bike has been located I do hope there is no damage, unfortunately the world is full of arseholes who want what we have all have worked hard for, but they want it the easy way.
It all comes down to a basic lack of RESPECT.
-
The best part of the whole saga is that I was so wrong and it wasn't one of our community. I think that having a good local in place who had the confidence of the scumbags worked a treat. Enjoy the Grange Hermitage boys.
-
Awesome, well done Watson. ;D
It will undoubtedly be an interesting story to hear the details.
Wooo, woo, let's party :D
-
I would like to personally thank Big Kev Crossy and Magoo for the huge effort these two guys put in to recover the 400. They both went to extraordinary lenghts to discover the location of the 400 and chase up the police to recover it. I can assure you both Kev and Magoo will be legless the next time i catch up with them. Thank you both, and all the forum guys who have been on the look out for the 400.
Now we just have to get Hilly's bike back.
-
Pete glad you got it back, did you get all you stolen stuff back and undamaged?
-
Top effort.............and it never left the scene of the crime.
-
Top effort.............and it never left the scene of the crime.
What do ya mean, never left the Motel ???
-
pete thats great you got her back :D
now you will have to give magoo another ride as a reward ;D
well done everyone 8)
-
Well done Magoo and team.
Take that ,dirty feral scum bags!!
-
Congrats on a great effort Kev and Magoo.A.K.A Sherlock and Watson. Was there any "Deliverence" type retribution given.Just an idea ,but if we pass the hat around for a reward payable-(Brown paper bag of course)- to the local constabulary, the Honda might be worth there while to try that little bit harder to locate.
-
;D great news glad you got it back top stuff
