Boys,
We have a Mikuni conversion kit for our '73 that includes the aloy inlet manifold which is slightly wider in the ports than the original barrel.
Therefore there is s step of about 3mm between the manifold and the barrel. Is it necessary to enlarge the port all the way through to the steel cylinder liner ports or ok just to blend in the alloy section?

Just taper the port to match, doesn't need to go right up to the liner but the shallower the taper the better.
Almost sounds like you've picked up a manifold for a 400 which was a fairly standard modification to allow the fitment of a 36mm mikuni

Spot on Tony std mod to fit the 400 intake on to the 250 when fitting a Mikuni 34mm up to 38mm sizes

Too Right boys we have the 400 manifold which came with the carb kit.
We will taper it as good as possible and see how we go.
