Has it been re oiled Steve?

Jeez that looks inviting! ;D

Has it been re oiled Steve?
It has been and it needs more. The guys will be doing an oil run this weekend so it will get another dose. It needs rain as well!
The club's intent is to provide a loose dirt track surface using oil to control dust (it works a treat). The oil is well absorbed through the surface so it's not expected to break up and expose dry dirt underneath as it was doing a while back when the surface was slick. It does get a groove through the day but there is plenty of track so the inside line will be moved around throughout the year to avoid the deterioration experienced in the past.
The hair pin at the end of the sweeper has been given a slightly increased radius so there is more opportunity to maintain speed and avoid the stop start inside line.

Looks great! Excuse my ignorance, where is Action Park?

I thought oiled tracks were a thing of the past :'(, love to have a ride on that :)

Those couple of pictures should put any doubts to rest regarding trials tyres for the tittles at Temora

Steve what wheels are the hot setup on that track these days? It used to be 17's with wet weather slicks
-
17" set up doesn't fit within the GCR's for dirt track (max 150mm wide rear), so most run a trials tyre on the rear (18" but 19" are available) and stick to the 21" front wheel. It's hard pack and does get a blue groove throughout the day on the race line and most use from intermediate to hard fronts. Sliders run 19" speedway tyres.
Trials tyres like michies don't last long but many of the other brands do the job for the less financial.
Without wanting to detract from Australia's awesome DT history, I think one of these set up's would be the go here.

That doesn't make any sense, everyone this weekend is running 17's at the TBC..
-
I guess they choose to ignore that clause in NSW. There tracks appear to be hard and slick as Action Park once was, but now it's loose. And as a result attendance has improved and looks to be getting better.
-
I guess it's going to be cheaper and easier if you can run a knobby front and 18 michelin rear

Would be a bit hard to pull it up for the hairpin without a front brake!

From the 2013 GCRs
20.2.1.2 Tyres
a) The rear tyre must be a maximum
width of 150mm when measured at a
point on the tyre located at 90º to the
where the tyre contacts the ground
and at a pressure inflated to 14psi.
(9.6KPa),
b) Tyre pressure may be adjusted after
measurement.
The above rule refers to the contact patch or footprint of the tyre @ 14 psi rather than the overall width of the tyre.
Do the 17s that are being used comply with this, Steve ??
I really don't know much about these tyres but I do know the rule has been in for a while and it was brought in about the time big chookies started wearing wet weather slicks and giving the sliders heaps. Mind you , I reckon the racing at the time was great, I have a video of the '82 King of Nepean Longtrack with Watson , Horton, Whitehouse and Dole trading blows race long !! Bloody good racing !!

Yep, that KX looks horn don't it? But to be fair, we were racing those here back in the 80s...

Yes the 17's will comply, they are only 150mm wide from outer edge to outer edge and the contact patch is much less than that.
-
And yes, Action park is looking superb again. Great work by all involved.
Maybe not the best pic to compare, but here it is now:

Foss, if it relates to the actual contact surface with the ground, I would think a 17" motard tyre would be OK, so would a 300 wide harley tyre maybe? But how would you measure it? I read it as max 150 at a point anywhere on the tyre @ 90 degrees above the contact point at 14psi.
-
Yeah, Steve, the rule could have been worded a bit better, couldn't it ?? , however , if a Scrutineer came to me, as a CoC or Steward, I would interpret the rule as refering to the actual contact patch.
Action Park looks terrific for this year, I wish I was still actively racing I'd love to come up and have a skid around there.

Cheers Foss, that makes a big difference.

Not sure on how the track has faired with the rain, but I wouldn't think there would be much of a concern. If anything the track will be better off for it.

Hmmm... Can't see any dates that fit to come up and race. BUT... I am expecting to be in Maryborough over the Mother's Day weekend, and you've got a practice day then. Hmmm... now all I gotta do is borrow a bike and I could go for a spin :)
-
I have had the idea of a club bike for such purposes for a long time Graeme, to be used for visitors and first timers. Have one in the shed but it needs a full rebuild and I haven't had time or funds to do it (haven't even done my bully!). The way things are going it's gonna be a while beofre my club bike concept is up and running.
anyway, bring ya riding gear!
-
Yeah, might just do that. You never know, do you?
