When do you think the final decision RE a date and venue will be made. It is hard to set a VMX state calendar unless we know.

Well maybe I should read things more carefully. However there hadn't been a lot said about this year so I thought it was relevant. My mistake see I do make mistakes.

Listed for 20-22 June @ Conondale off facebook.

Whilst I never underestimate how hard it is to organize an event like Classic dirt and the great job the guys do. I don’t understand the secret squirrel stuff that surrounds Classic Dirt. Since the down turn I don’t have the flexible employment that I once enjoyed so like many others I need give up to 6 months’ notice now to take Holidays. Very regrettable I might just have to give CD to the too hard basket.

Classic Dirt 10 at Conondale QLD
Classic Dirt is returning to Conondale, supported by Yamaha Australia, Shannons Insurance and Engineered Environments. This venue played host to Classic Dirt 6, 7 and 8 and those were three of the most memorable Classic Dirts ever held. So we're coming back!
The dates are 20-22 June and there'll be action aplenty (but no racing of course) with all the features of previous Classic Dirts at this great venue plus a new flat track (universal rear tyre required). So there'll be the main Pre '90 track (oh yes, it's stepped up to Pre '90 now, given the popularity of that class in Qld in particular), a Pre '78 track, a vinduro course, a Trials area, and, the aforementioned flat track. Camping, catering, bar, good showers....all the same as past years and proven quantities thanks to the great organising skills and enthusiasm of the Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club.
Find all the details in Issue 57 of VMX Magazine (due out late March). See you there.

Dont take this as negative. Do I now need to look to facebook for updates in regards to CD events?
-
Wow I only just realized that it is even happening in 2014 !!!!
-
bugger, its coming up very soon, wonder why it was not announced earlier ???

Or you could wait to read about it in Issue 57 ;)

It is none of my buisness how they run CD.
I just dont understand the short notice or the lack of imformation which has to impact on numbers.
I wish them only success.
-
Just my 2 cents worth ,
Firstly that's the best news I have heard in ages :) I will be doing all that's Possible to get there .
As for short notice , well I heard today on here first and then via face book , so that's 15 weeks notice or nearly 4 months or a third of a year , and that's a fair bit .
Looks like lots of new exciting plans for CD 10 according to FB .
Will be waiting for VMX #57 by the mail box to get the full low down and checking their FB page .
What great news to start a weekend on call .
-
Who is face book ??? seems to know every thing.
-
If I can swing the time and the money, it might be a good 'welcome home' trip for by DR750.
And come home via Beaufort for the VERi Vinduro. ;)

Yamaha, Shannons and Shoey as sponsors........No more Suzuki, which I think is the reason for the announcement delay.

Exactly..

I hope that everyone will focus on the positive that this iconic treasure of VMX is happening again and gets behind it with all their VMX passion rather than worry about the announcement date or anything else .
The fact that the team behind the event have put the disappointment of last years cancelled event behind them and have secured a new sponsor as well as their long term existing sponsors to make this event happen again surely they deserve all the support we the VMX punter can give them .
Going by the face book news it appears that the event now welcomes pre 90 machines and a dedicated flat track as well as the already awesome tracks and facilities Connondale offers , showing that the organisers are listening to what the VMX public would like to see at the event.
Don't make excuses just make it happen , you wont regret it :)
-
Spot on Bill .. the only problem with this event is that it's no long enough .. should be a week :)
-
Well said. Last year I was surprised at the lack of hype here on the forum... well I reckon to make Classic Dirt 10 be the success it should be, we should be hyping the heck out of it. Some of that old fashioned passion and enthusiasm.
So I propose a special "CD10 - Believe the Hype" 'sticky' thread (with apologies to MA800...). But what will we call it? Your best suggestion here please and as soon as we know we've got it nailed I'll start that thread and we can go to town!
-
Yep, It's all go now. There will be a few changes. But, the club will be putting in big effort to make it bigger and better than ever.
-
ok where on facebook is it? post a link please.

Great news,
may be we might get to hoon around on the complete set of Yamaha dirt bikes??
-
Pre-90 for the win.
:)
-
Spot on Nathan and also the chance to bring out my dirt trackers for a spin. Spoken to the boss and we are in! Woohoo. Funny that with Wallerawang about an hour from me I was not even interested in attending but I am pumped to make the trek to Connondale. Guess venue does matter eh?
Cheers

I think you have already said the name

Here is the text from VMX Facebook page.

Yeah, I guess "Classic Dirt - Believe the Hype" does have a bit of a ring to it...
All those in favour say 'aye'
-
Aye :)
-
AYE AYE AYE...
Great news....
-
Yep!!
-
Hallelujah!.....Let's see some positive support for what is the holy grail of our sport. Thank you so much Steve Cotterell at Yamaha, Shannons Insurance and Shoey for putting their support behind this great event. I'll have to pull my finger out on my Ducati and "secret project #7" now we've got something to aim for. It looks like another Klub Kevlar road trip in the works ;D. I might have to bring the Shell 750 for a skid on the grass track.

Massive budget cuts at Suzuki Australia
Then VMX supporter GM Perry Morisson has left the building,
Luckily Steve Cotty at Yamaha is also a VMX fan
I am told the Aberg TT500 is one of his favourite bikes.
-
excellent 8)
LATE EDIT: AYE!

Then VMX supporter GM Perry Morisson has left the building
Perry's gone? Was he pushed or did he jump? Don't forget my Maxxis tyre Graeme.
-
Its an AYE from me, also I think the major thanks should go to the Sunny Coast club for having the balls to commit to run this event before ANY sponsership was promised.

Call before you come just to make sure I'll be here and don't forget my Trackmaster frame if you could please mate. I'm busy Monday and Tuesday.

Queensland VMX scene gets all the fun :(
-
They could hold Classic Dirt at Oodnadatta or Christmas Island and I'd still go. It's pound for pound the best non racing fun you'll ever have on a dirt bike. Even though I was as sick as a dog during the weekend and the weather didn't do us any favours, I thought Wallerawang was great and showed a lot of potential. Unfortunately for 'Wang, Conondale was a very hard act to follow and it was pretty obvious that the punters were never going to be happy until it was back at either Conondale or Barrabool. Like I said in another post, Klub Kevlar hasn't missed a single Classic Dirt and a few of us like to debut new rides at the event so we'll be there with this years new creations.......barring any more dramas or WW3.

Barrabool.
hijack
this came up in conversation at Mr MX Legends Stars Charity Dinner..
With Barrabool shutting, we all are hopeful someone/club, can pull off a good classic event here for the last year of the opening..sad wake but a good one 8)

Just a thought, to really have a good send off for Barrabool. Why not consider both Classic MX Champs and Post Classic Champs a week apart. As long as there is camping at the track Inter-State riders could stay an extra week etc. May need two different clubs to run each meeting. Classic 1st and then Post Classic a week later. Well Viper you are to obvious Club to run Post Classic. Just don't put it in the middle of winter.
