I have no info on the rider or the bike........I just like this photo of the rider having some fun up in the loose stuff. You've got to love the safety fence, no Speedways Act there ;D.

That IS a great shot. Reminds me of that iconic photo from the 70s of Rex Beauchamp.

When I went hunting for that Beauchamp photo I came across these as well. Nice!

Jorgy was my absolute favourite on the trick as shit Ron Wood Norton. I regularly went to Ascot Speedway in the 70's and during that era he and the Norton ruled that place.

Firko, the guy that has the import shop at Seaford said he went to the US with Norton in the early 70's to super tune them so Norton could hold market share there.
He seemed to know a lot about those very fast dirt trackers and the road racers too.

John Kocinski tippin' it in on the very trick Ron Woods Rotax vintage racer. Check out the rear suspension.

Correctomundo Tony....The action shot is Kocinski on his Knight framed CR250 Honda powered 250 classer. Good power of observation my friend ;).

Maybe Dave but I reckon the bloke on #3 above might have proved he can turn right occasionally with his 1990 World 250 GP Championship and 1997 World Superbike Championship wins. Wayne Rainey, Eddie Lawson, Randy Mammola, Kevin Shwantz and Bubba Shobert all turned left on the dirt before showing us all that they can also turn right on the road race circuits.
-
Yep Firko, The Yanks can turn right !! TT has at least one right hander plus a bloody jump.
In the early '70s the AMA #1 plate was earned by competing in five disciplines, Dirt Track ( Flat Track ), Short Track, TT, Scrambles and Road Racing, I'm not sure when it changed.
Foss
-
True Foss.....TT scrambles is very much like our version of dirt track with a right hander except the Americans make it a bit more skillful and interesting by including a jump. I'm not sure when the #1 plates became individual plates instead of all in like you describe. Possibly the early 80's ???.

firko you left out kenny roberts and a lot more
i have a frame at home just like the 1 that bubba shobert rode in 1974 for 125 or 250 2t

Ooops Kenny was an obvious one I overlooked Jim, I just pulled 'em out of my half pissed 11 pm memory. There were a shitload more right turn Yanks that we missed and Purple Dave didn't consider good enough ::).
Mark Brelsford, Dick Mann, Dave Aldana, Gary Nixon....yada, yada, yada, the list goes on.

I know this has been on here before but you sparked my interest when King Kenny was mentioned.

True Foss, Medina's a very cool track, about as close to out kind of dirt track as you'll get. Interesting that there's no jump, they must have an option, or it might have been dropped from the discipline.

Recent night time dirt track at Nudgee had a jump to make it interesting spec for the side cars

Firko, from what I can gather there are two versions of TT, Steeplechase, with jump and GP, without. I may be wrong , but that seems to be the case. It may be a regional thing.

The Medina track looks fabulous. If it ain't oiled whats keeping the dust down. Nice bit of loose stuff on top as well.

Here's a rough scan of the bike that Barry Briggs rode at the Houston Astrodome indoor short track track back in 1970. To me it looks to be a Jawa long tracker frame with the Yamaha TD2 road race motor. It's weird and a bit rough looking but it must have stirred up the Yanks at the time ;D Here's a rare film of the racing showing Briggo # 70 at that event. Check out the stars he was up against. http://www.speedwayplus.com/BriggoHouston.shtml (http://www.speedwayplus.com/BriggoHouston.shtml)

How's that crash at preoria! N0. 55 does well to weave throughout it!
Nudgee TT was good. The set up looked great with a hair pin at the end of the straight into the jump, a 90 degree right hander into a sweeper that linked into pit corner. Whilst Darcy Ward was under gunned on a 250f he was more sideways than anyone and looked like he was having fun. Lets hope we get some more of it in the future.
Meanwhile Action Park Raceway has been completely ripped and turned over and harrowed with a good splattering of oil added, regraded to take out the few low points that held water and is looking to be in great shape for 2013. The hairpin at the end of the sweeper has a larger diameter with a slight camber added which should allow some quicker cornering.
