Hey Olaf,
Welcome to the forum. ;D
Great looking YZ you have there. Thanks for sharing the photos.
Tony
-
Yes very nice YZ's you have there (if you like those kind of things ;-) ), welcome Olaf :-)
-
Careful John, I may have to post the Can Ams that I have also :)
-
That's a sweet YZ 465 Olaf, you may just be our first Canadian member. You're certainly our first Olaf ;D. The only other Olaf I knew was a hulking big Norwegian whom I played Rugby with when I lived in California. One of the funniest blokes I ever met, truly a unique unit! But I digress, post your Can-Ams as well !
-
Yeh Olaf, bring it on ;-) (Canam's)
-
I found that 465 a few years ago, it only had about 20 trail riding hours on it and still sporting original tires. I put the stock plastic away and installed some aftermarket stuff. Have Race Tech emulators/stiffer springs as well as a Race Tech G3s piggyback shock on the rear. The PFR pipe smoothed out the power with some jetting, it's fast. I can ride this bike at any of our "modern" tracks here, it works that well. The motor is untouched and nothing on the bike has been painted or touched up. Thanks for the warm welcome !

Hey Olaf
Did the vforce reeds increase performance on the yz 250 ?
-
Not sure on the V-force reeds, just installed on the bike. In fact I have very little ride time
on the bike, just bought it late fall. Tore it all down and re-assembled, just finished it actually.
Your bike looks awesome!
-
welcome olaf, nice bikes you've got. You haven't got any nos 1980-81 yz white plastics under your bed have you? craig.
-
Welcom to the mad house Olaf , nice Yamaha's .
-
welcome Mate, nice Canned Spam's
-
all very nice bikes. I'm assuming you have one or two winter months to work on them?
-
welcome olaf, nice bikes you've got. You haven't got any nos 1980-81 yz white plastics under your bed have you? craig.
No Craig, I don't. 1982 was the first year for white YZs in Canada, previous years were all
yellow. We had white/red bikes and the US had yellow. I always like looking at pics of
OZ Yzs in white, a lot of guys here buy kits to make them white.
We can still get white fenders from Yamaha here ( front 82 style) as well as yellow ones.
But no side panels, tank etc.
Yep, I have at least 3 months left of winter before I ride my vintage bikes but....

Hi Olaf. Nice bikes alright ;D
Can you get up a pic of the Race Tech G3 shock on the rear please?
Did you have to modify the air box much to get it in there?
I have a YZ 250 H with a Gold Valve in the stock shock and as you say, it handles like a modern. ;)
-
no worries thanks anyway olaf, looks cold there. :o
-
G'day mate, welcome to VMX cobber, and no worries we wont stir the shit outaya to frigan much digger. ;)

Here is a pic of the shock when I first mounted it:
I took off the top funnel of the airbox and cut a little off the white guard(used an old one first). I made a
rubber flap attached to the seat base ( used the rubber protector by the carb off a Honda Rubicon atv) to
keep all the dirt away from the now exposed airbox ( no pics of this, sorry). It looks factory.
Although expensive, this shock is worth every penny. I was tired ( from previous projects) of working
with worn out shock bodies etc. I didn't want to mod my stock minty shock either.
Lots of guys here run the gold valve modded rear shock with great success. I wanted to build
a serious vintage race bike I could ride/race on any track, this bike got my 18 yr old son hooked on vintage
racing.
-
I like it. Will be doing the same. ;)
Thanks.
-
Great bikes Olaf, esp the Yamaha's! I have a 250H on the bench right now, a bit stalled over Christmas but should be getting back at it soon. Where abouts are you in Canada?
Cheers, Chris

I'm in Manitoba. We have some great local vintage races going on, but I also travel west to Alberta once or twice a year to race ( lots of racers/bikes out there).
How is the vintage scene in Ontario? Everybody out here is on Facebook to keep in touch with what's going on and always guys posting project pics.
