Title: PE250C Fuel Tank
Post by: Tony T on December 10, 2012, 10:02:24 pm
Did Australian PE250's in 1978 come with a plastic or metal fuel tank?
I remember reading that the C came with a plastic tank in the US, so maybe it was just and Aussie ADR thing?

The UK ones where alloy all the way through Tony, even most UK IT's....something about not being allowed to ride on the road with a plastic tank.

Australian C model and onward PE's had the plastic tank.
All the initial B model PE's had alloy. For the C (1978) year, they shifted to plastic. However in the UK it was not legal for a road-registered bike to have a plastic tank, the thinking was they would split rather than deform in the event of a crash. So the UK for one, kept the B model alloy tank all the way through to the end.

One oddity of the PE plastic tank is the sectional thickness, which seemed to become much thicker with the later models. An otherwise indistinguishable tank from a C will hold 12 litres, vs 10.5 litres for a T/X tank.
