Ok enough talk.
The Sunshine Coast MCC will be running an interclub Competition Classic Enduro known as the “Conondale Vinduro Sprint” on the 19th of May 2013.
The format: 1 heat will be each rider doing a timed lap of a 10-15min AORC type track. Depending on the number of entries there should be 6 – 8 heats in the day. The rider with the lowest elapsed time in each class will be classed as the winner.
It will be Pre90 but the classes will be different to VMX to reflect what was going on with enduro bikes at the time.
This is in the early stage of planning. You will not want to miss this, mark it on your calendar.
Cheers

Great stuff Noel...
So first dumb question,
Will an mx bike with lights fitted be ok?
-
I'll be there for sure
-
Count me in Noel!
Just need to get my hands on a YZ125K now to really make it a trip down memory lane... ;D
-
Hey Noel
We will be there
Shoey
-
I can legitimately ride the 84+3 WR in a vinduro, how good is that!
-
How good is that Wayne
I plan to ride my 88 430 auto

We could be twins :D

Road Trip
-
OK
But i'm not going to be Danny
-
Yep
I feel a Road trip that will become a road train
-
I guess with Christmas in between, I could end up with a physique like Danny?
-
Sounds like a road trip from Cairns - hah its only 24hrs one way lol.
I love riding at Conondale.

Thanks for the support.

Just do what everyone else used to do back in the 80's - run a total loss system.
For the YZ125J/K etc that I ran in Queensland Enduros in 82-83, I just had 4 x D Cell batteries in a length of old bicycle tube, hose clamped to the frame (or sitting in the airbox if the airbox was big enough).
You'd never get home if you were stuck 50 miles away in the dark, but it passed all the Enduro lighting tests at scrutineering back in the day.
I think I used an old torch body at one stage (4 x D cells end on end - may have been C cells) - I also used and old D cell battery box at one stage from an old battery powered slot car set from memory).
If you go to Dick Smith, you can buy that sort of thing over the counter these days.

I have been working on the classes.
Off course all classes will have good bikes and not so good bikes but so do all VMX classes.
This where we're at:
Pre76
Pre79 250/Open
125 Water cooled / Air Cooled
EVO 200/250/Open
Air Cooled 200/250/Open
Pre 90 250/Open
-
I reckon you should have pre 75 then pre 80 Noel so you look after the short travel bikes and then the first long travel bikes.
-
hmmmm - so what type of bikes would you expect at the Vinduro? And what class would that put them in??
I'll start the list - feel free to add your bikes to the list too so we can maybe get a feel for what's in what class..
Bike NSR Vinduro Class VMX Class
1976 IT400C Pre 79 Open Pre 78 Open
1979 KDX400A1 Evo Open Evo Open
1983 YZ125K 125 Watercooled Pre 85 125
So really, the IT competes against one year later bikes. The KDX is unchanged, and the YZ-K goes from competing against bikes from 1981-1984 to bikes from 1981 to 1989...
I suppose from my point of view it would be nice to see 125 aircooled, 125 pre 85/86 and 125 pre 90.. Just sort of seems that with the 125's especially (being the early adopters of watercooling), you may be lumping too many years together.. (9 years)
Then again, how many 125's would you get anyway? ::)

Where's the fun in that? ;)
will i be able to get a one day licence to run this meeting
Yep, but it is an interclub event, so you will need to be a member of one of the clubs.
The clubs are SCMCC, BMCC, TMCC, QVMX and TBA.
-
What about limiting capacity classes for each 'era' to Under & Over 200cc?
Simple & self handicapping.
Worked pretty well... back in the Old Days!
-
Just want to clear up the Headlight issue.
The consensus of the committee for the Vinduro Sprint is that all bikes are to have a headlight fitted.
It does not have to work.
-
NSR
You wanted a horse right? Damn committees.
What about 10 seconds off your lap time for a working headlight? :D I'd fit multiple lights! ;D
-
Hey Mike,
Looks like I'll be reliving old times at Conondale in May.. I'm hoping to be riding my new (to me) YZ125K!
Hahaha - haven't ridden an early 80's 125 in a long time (well, since the early 80's to be quite honest), so hopefully I'll get a couple of rides on it before then. ;D
Now, if only I could get down to my early 80's riding weight.... ::)
-

Oh, and Noel...
Just for you, I will make sure my lights work. At the start of the day.... ::)
Can't guarantee at the end of the day though... ;D
-
Noel,
What's the story with entering multiple classes - not that I'm fit enough to..
But I'm planning to bring a new bike that's a bit of an unknown quantity, reliability wise..
Can I enter 2 classes in case I get out on a lap with the new bike and find some new and unusual fault?
I'd hate to miss out on a full days riding at Conondale!
-
Multiple Classes :P This isn't going to be some wimpy MX race day.
Depending how many laps we get in, you could be doing around 2hrs of racing on one bike.
Unless you have another 125, changing bike will be hard if you enter the 125 class.
It would be great to see working headlights.

Hahahahaha - what were you trying to say about MX Noel? ;D
Hmmm, what I had in mind with multiple classes was to probably enter and aim to compete on the YZ125K.
Then, since it's a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment, I had also thought to enter either the KDX400 or IT400C. Then if the 125 shits itself (or I find I'm not enjoying riding the 125 as much as I expect too), I could just swap over to the 400..
-
Its a long way to come for 2 hrs riding?
-
Its a long way to come for 2 hrs riding?
There will be 2-3 hrs riding on the Saturday. How long your racing for will depend on how fast you are. So how does 4 hrs sound for you ;D
-

How's planning for the Vinduro Sprint coming along? Looking forward to it!
;D
Tony

Wow that Ossa is sensational
-
Beautiful OSSA Noel, is it yours? If so it's a credit to you. One question, that front brake is the same as I use on my DT1 from Hell and it's bloody awful. Have you been succesful on getting it to work? If so is there a trick I've overlooked?
-
Beautiful OSSA Noel, is it yours?
No, not mine. Looks great with all that body work 8)
How's planning for the Vinduro Sprint coming along? Looking forward to it!
Yeah, I'm back on to it. The Supp Regs and entry forms will be out next week. The track will be worked out in the next few weeks so we can start fixing it up from all the rain and last event.
I have put it in the events section of the ning site so it would be good if we could get some RSVPs.
-
It's my OSSA 250, i put a Magura lever on it and keep the pads good . Very slow reving motor the flywheel is the same as my EXPLORER.
-
anyone know were to get entre forms from
-
Hi All
We now have the Regs and entry forms. They are not on the web site yet. But if you want a copy send an email to Peter at
[email protected] and he will send one to you or go to the MQ site.
Ok here they are:

Downloaded the supp regs and looking to enter....can't wait to ride at Green Park again. I think there will be a few making the journey north.....
Let the silly questions begin...
I'm not a member of any of the four clubs mentioned in the supp regs, do i sign up with the Sunshine Coast Club on the day? Cost?
I assume that the address to send entries to is PO BOX 246 Maroochydore QLD 4558 ?
Not my silly question, but I'll save someone else asking.. Will one day licenses will be available and do you (the club) need numbers prior to the event?
I've heard a rumour that the course will be tight and perfect for 175 to 200cc bikes? ;D That can't be right though?
-
All good questions
I'm not a member of any of the four clubs mentioned in the supp regs, do i sign up with the Sunshine Coast Club on the day? Cost?
All riders will have to be a member of one of the four clubs. You will be able to join the Sunshine Coast club at the event. I will be talking to the other clubs to see if they would like do the same. I will get back with the cost.
I assume that the address to send entries to is PO BOX 246 Maroochydore QLD 4558 ?
Correct.
Not my silly question, but I'll save someone else asking.. Will one day licenses will be available and do you (the club) need numbers prior to the event?
One day licenses will be available at the event. We don't need know numbers.
I've heard a rumour that the course will be tight and perfect for 175 to 200cc bikes?
Apart from the power sapping hills it will be :P ;) Ricky Madden will be setting out the track and he will be racing an IT200 so maybe you could be right :D
-
looks good for Worms first Vinduro, Shoie you'll be pleased to know I'm now a husky convert. will I be allowed to enter is the big ?
Cheers Worms

NSR, If you need a hand with track set up send me a PM, only live 30 mins for Green Park - Cheers Eddy
-
Well, The entries are rolling in 8)
The scoring for the event will be by transponder so you will be able to see your times though out the day.
The track has been worked out and will be a flowing fun track of around 10mins so we should get at least 8 laps of racing.
The track on Saturday will have a "hard" loop that will take you to the top of the hill. Oh yeah and back down :P.
-
If you are planning on Pre entering please post them no later than Tuesday the 14th so I can make sure we get them.
The track is looking great with most of the setting up to be done this Saturday. We are making sure it will be fun for Enduro and MX bikes.
-
hi ppl I pre entered but cant make it crushed end of finger last Monday at work have fun im not
-
cant make it crushed end of finger
Ouch! I'll let the race sec know.
Now the Teams, Thanks to VMX Magazine, this will be well worth winning 8)
A team will consist of 3 riders and we are working on a scoring formula that takes into account the age of the riders and bikes in the team.
Cheers
Noel
-
Just back from helping set up track, next weekend is going to be a whole lot of fun, Green Park is such a great venue
Dust off your old enduro bikes or (Mx with headlight fiited) & come join us.
-
G'day Noel, great effort in putting on the Vinduro Sprint, I'm counting the sleeps. One question, do I have to pack little lunch and big lunch etc or will there be on site catering. ??? Be warned, A few of the "good old boys"from Toowoomba are coming over, and you never know there might be some more stories about the sheila with the BIG BOOBS,,,, then again that might depend on how may drinks there are on Saturday night. 8) I look forward to catching up you all on Saturday morning.
Lawrie :) :P
-
Thanks Lawrie. Consider me warned :D
There will be catering, But I will contact the P&C to check what they have come up with for Saturday Dinner.
The Coffee man will be there Sunday morning.
The track is a Hoot to ride 8) The condition of the track is spot on, there will be no dust.
For the MX guys, It is 8ks of the best natural terrain track you have ever ridden with out the boring rules of what can be in or near the track.
Cheers

Photos look great NSR.
We should arrive Friday night ... late I think.
What about an age/bike age/ distance travelled formula for picking winners?
Will there be showers there?
-
and working joints of course.
How good would that be :(
Will there be showers there?
Yep, The legendary Conondale showers will be working.
-
Bikes loaded, camping gear in, weather forecast great - one more sleep - cant wait
-
What an awesome W/end. The weather was perfect. The track was one of the best I've ridden.
And team Sunny coast took out the VMX mag Teams challenge.
For me this was the best competition Vintage event I have done, it was a shame there weren't more riders to share it with :(.
We will be asking the club if we can run another next year. We just won't be able to grantee as perfect track conditions as we had for this one.
Thanks to the SCMCC, The Bell family, Conondale P&C, CMH, Metalink bike trailers and VMX mag.
Cheers
Noel
-
Absolutely Awesome event! ;D ;D ;D
A huge Thank You to Noel and the Sunnie Coast Club!
Everyone had a ball (including my 5 year old son - spectacting at his first enduro event).
Bring it on again next year!
-
Excellent event, good track, good weather, good mates. What more do you need, except a few more riders maybe. Was great to see all different bikes and levels of rider skill and experience get on so well together both on and off the track. Even the gumbies down the back of the starting list, myself included, were having a ball trying to catch the guy in front.
So even if you've never raced enduros before , next time there's one on, grow a pair of dibs, and come and race with the real men of motorcycle sport, ENDURO RIDERS.
it's A HOOT. ;D

Yeap Great weekend, Huge thanks to Noel, Rick and Co for track set up and preparation.
Well done Sunshine coast club for a well run event, hopefully we'll see this event next year. Team Vintage IT are looking forward to challenging Team Sunny Coast and Team Kyogle for the TOP step of the podium in 2014.

Yes...great job all round Sunny Coast Club....Fantastic weekend.
Was great to be able to ride a few laps on Saturday camp over with a few mates around a camp fire, lots of lies and laughter and a few too many beers ;D
Leisurely start the next morning and we still got the 8 laps in easy..hats off to the 2 ladies at the start gate with all their hand signals and pointing trying to get everyone in the right order....and we still had time for a lunch break.
What a great weekend all round...well, except for the last lap when I threw a chain and smashed the case on the old 250D :(
Hey Noel, are there any photo's posted anywhere?

Many thanks to the Sunshine Coast boys and girls for running this event. Great track, well organised and a great vibe.
Here's a link to a full lap of the course... Quality is poor but you'll get the idea. (I used an app on the ipad to edit, then uploaded the file straight from photos) Change the settings to 720P :) when viewing.

Thanks for the vid Wayne
Looks like fun.
The mighty 500 auto sounds good ;D

Congratulations to the organisers, it sounds like this was a great event. It would've been one of the first competitive vinduro events in Australia.
It's a long drive from Vic, but I'd love to try and get there next year if it's on again.
By the way, who won the 125cc Air Cooled class, and what were they riding?
Tex
-
Thanks to Noel and the club, I had a ball, I couldn't kill the husky and lasted all day, gave me 2nd place in pre 90 so I think I might have to wash it now ;D.
I cant believe how fast the lap times were in all the class's, some old guys are so fast on old bikes.
cheers Worms
-
A big thank you must go out to the Sunshine Coast MCC, in particular Noel, Ricky, Peter and the girls for running a fantastic event. The track layout was great and the riding conditions were fantastic. Lets not not forget the camp fire talk on Saturday night. A great weekend all round. Thanks guys and gals.
Lawrie ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
By the way, who won the 125cc Air Cooled class, and what were they riding?

I dont think any 125's entered Tex. I certainly didn't here any mozzies going around the track. ;D
-

Yeah, I think it was. About time we did it. http://ozvmx.com/community/index.php?topic=14629.0 (http://ozvmx.com/community/index.php?topic=14629.0)
The riding on Sat and the sprint format Sun, worked really well and with transponders the scoring was simple but added to the cost. Would be great to run one in Vic where you have a good following for Vinduros.
who won the 125cc Air Cooled class, and what were they riding?
The 125 classes was a fail. I knew with that many classes it was over ambitious. But I had them in there to make people think about entering as there was a class for them. I will think more about the classes.
The fact is what let the whole event down was the lack of riders. This is not from a $ point of view (although it makes running it again tougher) but the event was so good it deserved more entries. It also has dampening effect other clubs wanting to run one.
What was good was the number of entries of x enduro riders that came many just to support the event.
I will have to sell it better to the VMX guys next time. Although, I don't think this W/ends inter club helped.

Hey ;D has anyone seen any other photo's going around besides Team IT...... there was such a variety of bikes to be seen and seemed like a lot of people taking photo's around the track. ;D ;D

Great pics looks like plenty of blue Kingswoods out in force.

Yo Noel, as mentioned earlier, great event!
I did buy a YZ125K to ride at the event (just like I rode in 1983), but didn't get it finished in time.... :'(
So I thought I'd take the safe route and ride my IT400C, as its never let me down (and Tatey and I wanted to make sure some older bikes were entered).
Unfortunately, I didn't realise until the first lap, that sometime since I last rode it a year ago, all the nitrogen had leaked out of the shock.... ::)
8 laps with almost no rear suspension, and forks raked out like a chopper... No wonder I could hardly walk the next day!

Hey Noel sorry its taken so long for me to get on and thank you and the Club for a fantastic event and weekend we had a ball !
I haven't ridden a competitive enduro since 1990 and wow what a great event to start back at ! Picked a great class to ride under 200 air cooled and my little it200 never missed a beat, had a great time racing with Dave Wagner most of the day.
Looking forward to more old guy ridding an old bike soon !
