Can anybody tell me where I might be able to get a new gear set for a 1984 CR500RE?
-
G'day E74,
US Ebay had some RE 500 G/box clusters a week or so ago listed.

i can get them made gears, shafts what ever .ALL I NEED IS A SAMPLE AND THEY CAN CUT NEW GEARS ETC BUT ITS NOT CHEAP SO WORK OUT WHAT YOU NEED AND !!!!!!!!

E74 Like Hoony said Ebay in the states is the go, just purchased a hole gearset and selectors for 185 AUS plus 44 AUS freight. One new gear alone would cost more than this to buy. Most just neet the dogs back cut and in most cases all is good to go. Most of the thrust washes and shims are the same as later model items and can still be purchased for Honda. The 84 box is pretty much stand alone (not sure of the 85 box) but the 86 box part numbers are not the same, so it will be an 84 box your after.

Hi,
i'm restoring a cr500 87 and may need to replace all the transmission gears....will 93 gears do the job? was looking on partzilla for parts and noticed the 93 gears were all the same teeth...i'm new to restoring..so any help would be great.
Thanks :)

The following page might help you. I have a couple of dodgy gears in my 84 CR500, they are the same as 85 model (KA5 model code) but the later models are ML3 model code.
It appears from this chart that 88 thru 92 have a lower 4th & 5th to all the other models before & after those years. But I dare say that they might interchange if you use the matching gear from both shafts? All CR500's from 84 to 01 run the same shift-forks.

Thanks John. My biggest concern was that the last three digits are different on the part numbers of the 93 gears
on partzilla's page. eg 4th gear for 87 = 23461-ML3-000........4th gear for 93 = 23461-ML3-670.

Maybe they need to update there site on some of the other gears, as this one ends in 000 on the 87 page, and 670 on the 93 page, and is compatible with the 87 on the 93 parts page ::)
