Title: New spokes
Post by: Viper79 on November 13, 2012, 07:35:08 pm
Hi, I know there have been a few posts on spokes, but I couldn't see a reference to this seller.  Has anyone bought spokes from Vintage Avenue in Bangkok?
I intend to use them in a race bike. Are they a good thing or not?

Hi there,

If you are going to go to the trouble of respoking a wheel, I would go with stainless. They won't rust, and for the extra money, it's worth it. Fastline spokes in Vic are doing each wheel in stainless for approx $100, which is cheap! I'm waiting on a set at the moment!

Yes I bought a set of them for a TM 250  and they are still  in the bag they arrived in 2 years ago. In the end I gave my ball's more respect and had the wheels laced by  "Ashs Spoked wheelz"

I re-laced 4 or so TM wheels a few years back with these spokes. While the spokes are fine and still look good the nipples have all rusted due I assume to insufficient plating. Apart from that no problems.

yes I bought a front and rear set for my KT250 trials bike. Have only relaced the rear wheel with them so far.
They are definitely not as well made as OEM Japanese spokes. The weaknesses I found were that the threads are cut, not rolled, the lengths of the threads is not consistent, and some of the threads are not cut perfectly straight.
The good bits are that they look good and are relatively cheap.
I gave them a decent workout last weekend (95kg+heavy landings+lotsa rocks) and none came loose or broke.

I had a stainless set made by Titmans for my RM400 years ago. I should get a price on some stainless ones they will always look new.. I know what you mean. A job you only want to do once. I have re spoked four bikes now so I am getting used to it. I have three more to do.
