Think I have read somewhere on the ozvmx site that maybe Broadford and or Temora are possible locations for next years Dirt Track Titles.
Can anyone give me/us a bit of a heads up on definate location and date. Its a long way out I know but any info would be appreciated.

Hey Col, I only just found your email.
I don't think a firm decision will be made until early next year.
The Spear is def retired, he's seen the drama's I'm going through and isn't keen.
Soft I reckon.
-
Thanks Steve. Yeah I thought it was a bit early to be naming places and dates this far out but I understood the posts I was reading were speaking with a little bit of authority. Never mind , all will be revealed in the fullness of time.
Was good to catch up with Carlos at Canberra. Sorry to hear he has retired at such a young and tender age. Would be great to see him and a few others of his calibre on frames going round again as only he knows how. Maybe his little bro can coax him out of retirement.

From wot I have been told Temora has got the 2013 titles. So leave your knobbies at home as the track has a hard oiled non loose surface . Need to run a 21 inch trials tyre up front & a good trials or wet weather slick on rear.
I just hope the supp regs limit tyre & rim sizes & exclude wet weather slicks.(similar surface to Old Bar Taree)
The Temora club has a good commitee .I hope they get our support as they only run Dirt Track at the Woollands Speedway. See you all there next year.

That's it. I raced there back in the 80's or early 90's and I think I liked it :-\. I ran Carlilses on the Maico and my TT600 so if it's the same oiled surface a Maxxis or similar dirt track tyre might be the ticket.

What's the science behind the 21" front choice Grasy? I'd have thought that a sticky 19" road race wet or proper flat track tyre would suit the hard packed oil surface. Back in the day I ran both a grooved Michelin wet weather slick or Carlilse S pattern on the rear and a 19" Carlisle Pirelli MT53 pattern on the front of my TT600 on the oiled tracks that proliferated then, it was considered the hot setup. Even my Maico turned better with a 19" on the front. I'm genuinely curious because I'm going to set up my two flat trackers for the event and want to get it right ;).

Hi Mark,
There are alot better choices of( tyre & rim size)out there. But not everyone can afford them for a one off meeting. Most period bikes(classics) run a 21 inch front. As I posted I hope we are all restricted by tyre & rim size to make it fair to us all at keep as per original as possible.
For sure the rider with a full wet slick set up will win but it will cost dollars .
In my thought(small brain) this is not in the future benefit of our classic scene. We all enjoy the sport lets not let money the winner.
Regards Grasy

What is the ruleing on wheels ,can not find it in the rule book
-
Doesn't sound like a track overly suited to sliders?
-
Let's just hope that the Temora club decide to run both eras. We sure as shit don't want a repeat of this years situation.
-
There were only about 3 or 4 sliders turn up at both of the last two years title meetings so we may have to wait until 2014 to see some sort of resurgence, I hope I'm proved wrong.
I really think we should plan on this meeting being classic classes only, unless MA change the ruling or they'll again be expecting double the permit fee to hold both era's.

Steve, the grim truth is that Vintage Dirt Track just isn't big enough to split the divisions yet. There's more than enough time over a weekend to run both classic and post classic divisions on the same program. The 'split' was introduced to aleviate the ever growing program over crowding problem at the motocross Nats, not the dirt track.
The double dipping on the fees by MA needs to be sorted quick smart by MA. If anyone can get the message accross to MA heirachy that the double permit fee situation is just plain wrong it's Dave, Shane and Rod, our committee. It needs to be settled ASAP or we're headed for more problems.

i would think tyres and rims would need to be period correct in there visual.
rims are in the MOMS as is size but type is open to interpretation. but if some clown turned up with motard rims on, i would send him away. no question.
19' is legal and period correct but i would say you would be needing to be in a wm2/3 and a typical period style profile and wall. Maybe Just like a 69 DT1 rim :D

that track looks very loosely the same layout as griffith
-
Far from it Kerry. The straight runs up hill then a long slick down hill to the very sharp left hander(whom dares wins or comes off)followed by a sweeping right handed then a slick entrance back on to the straight. When I say slick I mean damn slick. But if you get the right line at Temora you will win just ask the Wilesmith's(Denis,Ashley & Luke) from Temora as they have got it sorted & will be hard to beat.
-
Ok cool Grasy, just from that aerial shot it looks a similar kidney loop.
Do you have any pictures from ground level of what you speak ?
and when you say slick , do you mean loose cushion or do you mean concrete hard as fork polished gripsville ?
-
Hardpacked oiled, like bituman I think.

Hello Everybody. My name is Dave Lewis, and I just discovered this website. For an old dirt tracker from the 70's, this is GOLD !
I raced at Temora and loved the track. In 1974 I raced an SC 500 Yamaha Motocrosser in A grade ( not easy against all the sliders !! ) The only 2 tracks I was Really competitive, was Amaroo Park in Sydney, and Woodlands at Temora. I was running 2nd in the Unlimited A Grade Final, until brought down ILLEGALLY ( long story ! ) by John Langfield......not good.....dislocated my left shoulder......so I know Temora Base Hospital as well ! However, a GREAT TRACK ! ...........Maybe I should invest in a bike and join you blokes in 2013. :o
-
Gee, that doesn't sound like Langy. ;) You're a member of pretty big club there.
Langy's still pretty heavily involved in the sport as an ACU Steward.
G'day Dave and welcome aboard, looks like next years classic titles might be at Temora you'll have to get a bike organised.
Cheers, Steve
-
G'day Dave and welcome aboard. I too liked Woodlands and , as I remember it , it was hardpack oil back in the day !!. When I ran there it was Temora on the Saturday then West Wyalong on the Sunday or the other way around. What race number did you run under ??.
Naah, doesn't sound like Langy, much !! another long story !!!

Hi Foss. I raced under 516.......when the ACU brought in registered numbers in the early 70's, I applied for 51 ( the year I was born ). It had already been claimed, so they offered me 516.......at the Nepean 50'th I found out Langy had done the same thing......He truly is an OLD BASTARD......his number is 40 !! :o

Here ya go Dave, Griffith 30th April 1972 from the Area News

You truly are a LEGEND Foss.........what a great photo ! I have a few photos, but I can't get them to upload onto this site. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Any pointers ?
-
Dave, ya hafta use the website " photobucket" or similar, to host your photos.
There is also a thread on the forum about posting pix, not sure whereabouts but I see if I can find it later.

Hi again Foss. Sorry for the mistakes, but I think I have worked it out.
This is a photo of Purple Dave with his Purple JAP in the pits at Griffith in 1975. I spent too much time on the paint job and not enough time on the motor of this QUITE OLD JAP. In practice I locked the bigend up coming onto the finish straight....not good ! The bike was a heap of shit really, so I rebuilt it and sold it, bought a new Yamaha 400MXB, which I rode until I retired in 1979, after a bad crash ( not my fault ) at NSW Titles at Nepean. http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp45/triumph51/JAPGriffith1975-1.jpg

I remember that purple and green bike from Griffith 75. With due respect, I recall thinking "what a weird colour combo" and it's haunted my sub concious ever since ;D.
-
Hi Firko........you can now REST IN PEACE.........Here is the bike I replaced it with.......a Yamaha MX400B at Amaroo Park in 1977. This was my favourite bike, but was just not quick enough to match it with the A graders.....a great club bike though.

Good going Dave and a good shot of you in Griffith pits with Connie Shields in the background. There is a thead on Foto Forum, " Classic Dirt Track Images" which I guess we should use as we've sorta hijacked this thread. Have a look at the Images thread , there is a shitload of Short Circuit fotos there.

Great bike Dave..the 400b is right up there as one of Yamahas best. Amaroo Park was a brilliant track too. I can see why you're Purple Dave though.......er, gorgeous ;D.
To make you feel at home, our mate Jonesy has a purple Rickman Honda and I once raced purple Maicos.

The sad thing is Firko, I'm still doing it......different purple suit, same design.....me at Eastern Creek in 2005 on my Triumph RS Sprint. I'm too old to change now !! ;D

Great photo's Dave, I remember you from those days. See if you can get back involved with the Classic scene. I'm sure someone has something for you to ride at Temora, that roadracing experience will come in handy! Peter

I've split this thread so that we can have a dedicated thread now that it's a definite where the titles will be. This thread is now closed. The new thread will be 'sticky'.
