Title: DT1 clutch from hell
Post by: Iain Cameron on November 03, 2012, 04:29:34 pm
Hi guys I have a DT1 with a clutch that Arnie would find hard to pull and after breaking my left paw its now too much . I know its only on the start line but this clutch is a bitch , Any ideas ? what if I take out 3 of the springs ?  any help would be appreciated . Iain

Weld an extension on the little actuator arm about 10 mm so there is better leverage, wont hurt the cable pulling on a slight angle (YZB's had this done at the factory....you can still buy them new off evilpay but expect to pay around a $100 for one). Also, dont use the cheapie lever sets, you might have to muck around with diferent ones untill you get it right. YZA's are a shocker std aswell.

The last time I looked the GSXR was made by Suzuki. Are you sure you don't mean XS650?

Sorry to burst your bubbles boys but the it's a falacy that TX/XS 650 actuators fit...I bought one the other day to see because nobody could say 100% they fitted...YZA/B (and Im guessing DT/RT's) have  3 splines and the road bike has 4!!!....obviously the roady has a bigger clutch so was made with 4 splines to spread the love...its also alot longer in the spline and where the cable picks up....hopefully Ill have my new clutch actuator covers ready soon. Cheers big ears.

Joan I too tried the steel XS650 actuator and also found that it was a no go. I got excited and looked up the GSXR Suzuki version on eBay just in case Armada was onto something but it's nothing like the Yammy unit. Until someone comes along with a repro version that doesn't split the first time we pull in the clutch, we're stuck with what we've got.

I think mine has the rd250 one. The pull is steal Nd the come with the female which us plastic. Wen you drop a chain it took out he old female side in the cover, so it was cut off Nd the new plastic coil bolts straight on. The new steel helix mates with it as there a pair and it works a treat.

I've managed to translate it enough to read that Freaky reckons the RD 250 actuator fits. After shelling out for an XS650 actuator after we were told that they would work and finding that it didn't, I'm a tad wary of trying this until someone can verify that it fits. Here's what the RD setup looks like, suspiciously like the XS650 version :-\........................

Thanks Freaky, that'll help quite a few of us looking for a better setup.

can be done with a bit of machining - mate here has done it on a 250B - much easier pull also.

i have only used it when the chain has taken out the covers  female helix, making the cover totally useless anyway. you fit the plastic side in the cover then you cut the old metal part off and drill 2 holes for litle bolts,
the rest of the set up works as per normal.

i wouldnt do it unless you fork a cover up or its a dt1 shit box cover dont go cutting up YZA covers to do it so you can save $50...... just saying   >:(

Just emailed a guy on ebay selling his rt1 which he has fitted a gsxr clutch actuator heres what he had to say,

"No problem suzuki p/no 2320031300 they might put it on back order but they will supply it will require a small amount of modification relocating holes in new part to match your sprocket cover [ use only 4mm bolts] and i think i inserted a ballbearing into the end of it and shortened the push rod to suit this will definatly give you a 1 or2 finger clutch depending on your cable and levers the long mcs copy of yamaha ones work great this actuator is all steel no nylon"

could be the go, im going to order one and give it a try as mine still works but looks like its split in half looking through the hole not game to pull it out to find out might no go back together if I do. Photo in the ebay finds section under black betty rt1
