Hi,
I am looking for a air filter cage for my YZ400D, anyone have one they would part with or an idea where I might get one.
Cheers

If you order a YZ250/400E "filter assembly" from your dealer, it will come with a cage.
Funnily enough, ordering a 250/400D filter assembly gets you just a filter element - some sort of weirdness with superseceding part numbers.
It worked four or five years ago, anyhow...
-
Thanks Nathan but unfortunately they are NLA as of June 2011...
-
any idea what they look like? I have a cage that came with a pile of 400 bits.
-
I think they are similar to this one. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/190745396441?nma=true&si=Y4eCwFlZ%2BZ0LM2dLbUdtYM4DOSU%3D&rt=nc&_trksid=p4340.l2557&orig_cvip=true
The bike was missing its filter when I got it.
Regards
Rob.

yes like that but the 79's are smaller . 77250/400 and 78 400 are the same , 78 250 is different but usable.

Can anyone tell me if the cage Mainline has pictured is the correct one for a YZ400D?
Regards
Rob.

Hey Paul. Do you have the filter box to go with the caga?
-
Anyone? :)

Anyone? :)
no , they are like the ones in your other post .

Thanks guys, the search continues. Speed and sport have the filters, I have asked him if they come with the cage. Just waiting on a reply..

If you're in a hurry you can use the K@N which doesn't use the cage

Thanks for that, I was thinking of giving it a run at Boagys but I'm still waiting on a few parts to arrive to finish it and I'm running out of time so I think I might have to wait until next season.

you can borrow my cage for boagy's . BTW my D didnt have a cage either , previous owner ran it with the filter loose in the box, it took me over a year to find a cage , from a wreckers in AZ. What else do you need?
-
Thanks for the offer, a mate has a spare one he can lend me as well. I should have most of the parts in time. I'll see how I go next week, I might have to take it down there half finished and give it a run at the back of the field. I'm used to riding back there... :)

sorry this one didn't fit the bill. I reckon half an hour with some pliers and a coathanger should get you something usable until a genuine one turns up?
-
Yeah, it might come to that. The cage is fairly critical as the filter is held in place by the air box lid pushing hard against the filter and cage.
-
does the lid have pins that lock into the cage (like a 125c/x, if you have ever seen their setup) ? If so I reckon you could get by with something than wasn't welded solid as the pins would stop the whole cage from racking and collapsing. The base would be held by the flange in the airbox.

No sorry, just the cage, and a box of miscellaneous doodads.
Out of interest, does anyone recognise the cage in the pic?
-
I emailed the pic to a mate and he said it looks like a 75/76 duel filter cage possibly a MX.
