just about finished the hagon mk11 sand racer stroker frame 250b resto from top to bottom waitin on wheels to return from chivo's to complete it ready to race next year, but what i was realy wanting to no is if there were many frames engine plates built to suit the suzi motor or if anyone has any pics of any others around i haven't been able to source any pics to compare with and admire ;D

G'day Hagon 84
I've just bought one a couple of weeks ago. It's got a '78 RM250c in it. I was told the frame was made in '76. According to the Hagon cattledog it's an "Ultra Lightweight Long Track Sandracer". Mines pretty much all Hagon, the coil bracket is machine stamped "A Hagon Product 01-539 8416" and the engines plates are stamped the same but the right hand plate has an additional hand stamped number "953" within the stamp.
Cheers, Simon.

hey simon
thats 4 suzi hagons i no of now not to many lookin forward to racing mine at next years classics and any other meet i get a chance to, is it running or a resto bike ill have to put some progress pics on here of mine.
-
I tried including a picture in my first reply but it didn't work. I'll figure it out. The bikes a runner, I've seen it getting around at a couple of recent practice days hauling in a few modern 450's. My two boys have been doing dirttrack, longtack and mx for a few years and have been having too much fun so now it's my turn. I plan to race it. Going from plodding around on old harleys to fangin' it on a two stroke slider should pretty exciting. Just got to get some brown leathers.
Cheers...
-
The return of the sliders! roll on next season!
-
I gather you bought the one from Goulburn Simon, where do you plan to ride it?
-
G'day SlideRulz, no, not the Goulburn one. I got this from a Canberra club member. I think it was originally from out of Wagga. I'll ride it at Canberra and wherever the boy's are racing if there is a class for it. I've never ridden one before hence the need for the brown leathers.
-
Brown leathers are a good idea then, Trevor Hunter was the only one I can rember who wore brown leathers.
I'm not trying to worry you too much but 2 stroke Sliders are harder to ride than the big 500 4 strokers.
Having said that I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience, Nepean also run classic classes and depending on conditions and amount of entries you'll get 4 to 6 rides per day.
I look forward to seeing you out there.

Looking good. It prompts me to do something positive with my Antig Maico/Yamaha* roller but there's only so many bikes I can work on at the one time.
*I've got two sets of engine plates and both engines...I haven't decided which one will get the eventual nod.
Brown leathers are a good idea then
Hmmm, I reckon brown leathers make the rider look like a giant turd. Just my 2 bobs worth ::)
-
Paint job looks slick.... nice clean lines...... but lose the cross brace and pad. Just my 2 bobs worth :)
-
but lose the cross brace and pad. Just my 2 bobs worth
I was thinking the same but don't you have to have a bar pad of some sort now? I hate the flucking things.
-
i was thinking bout losing the cross brace freaky but it adds a modern touch to it lol.
firko u like the hagon hey gotta thank me ol man for the vintage blood lol u would remeber him al adamson from memory u sold him a 250 griffon when i was only a youngster back after a condo long weekend he still talkin bout a come back on the scene i think this resto will get back out there on the 380 griffon ;D
-
The only thing good about brown leathers is that hide the internal skid marks, I think that's what he meant.
I reckon they look shit. ;D
That bike is looking real sweet, do you have a colour code for Hagon blue?

I'll be buggered....your dad Alan became an instant legend at our first VMX motocross at Amaroo in '88 aboard his puny little 3 speed, rigid framed BSA Bantam, beard flowing in the breeze, flannelette shirt, Blunstone boots and all ;D. I got a phonecall from him out of the blue a few months ago....threatening to come back on the Greeves. I wish he would, the sport need more blokes like your Dad.
Shit the years go by....I remember when you were a little tyke, probably 3 or 4 years old! :o :o
-
Great job on the Hagon/Suzuki '84,
I've got a real soft spot the 2 stroke sliders, light weight and nimble etc.
Slides, the nearest colour that I've found so far is Berger Blue (out to sea).
Foss put me onto it. If you can recall I recently took posession (STOLE) of a
Hagon JAP 500 Sandracer,... :D :D It will be painted blue.
As for brown leathers,..the great Charlie Edwards from Hay also had a pair!!
They looked like shit as well.
cheers Mark

that was wild machine :D still got that in the shed to,im workin on getting him back out on track next year i think the last time he raced would of been amaroo in 98 the last race held their. whats the format rules behind sliders these days in pre 78 or any others class they still allowed to run with the mx bikes at most meets or do they race seperate and is there ay big meets next year to run them at. Im heading south for the weekend just scored a good deal on a hagon 2 valve jawa the more the merrier i think ;D something about the hagons beautiful machines to own.
-
You're not wrong about the Hagons #84,
I love them as well! Godden's too. There is just something about them.
Good on ya scoring the 2 v Jawa. I wouldn't mind a 2v Jawa in a Godden frame to make a pair from the mid '70's.

slides i dont have the colour code for the hagon blue i think ive spent countless hours searching for it online thru old hagon catalogues and asking everyone i know who might know exept for on here it would be good to know but i colour matched it as close as possible to original. pretty easy to do with gear on hand and a panel shop ;D
-
Hi Jim,
I was just stirring Slides up mate. You did me a huge favour by giving me the tip.
I am extremely grateful for your input in helping me purchase a bike that I have been after for 30 yrs. Thanks heaps. regards Mark
sorry for pinching the thread,...back to the Suzy. ;)
-
;D hope to see some pics of the jap when u done her up awesome machines is it a 84s or 4b motor in it and im assuming freaky is after a motor u acquired in the buy lol, cameron engineering in uk are building brand new 4b 500's but from memory i think there about 7k delivered.
-
Hi #84,
My Jap is a 4B and the frame is all original Hagon,..even the rear sprocket has the Hagon stamp. It is painted white at the moment but I intend to repaint it in Hagon blue, polish up all the alloy etc.,rebuild the wheels etc. etc.I have just started to pull the bike down.

As usual the injection of fresh blood will always increase the interest in anything.
I love all this talk of Hagon resto's.
My big concern is that the " Slider " era could become just a memorry.
Having said that I've got 2 sitting in my shed just waiting for some loving, Hagon Sandracer Jawa & Elstar 350 BSA.
Will I ride them myself? Maybe, but probably not..
Let's maintain the rage and post as many photo's as we can and explain the detail that goes with them.
Slider's dominated Short Circuit for nearly 30 years, how many other style of bike can boast that record?
Forget the modern MX bike because they'll be with us forever.
Short Circuit was and still is based on getting and altering a production bike to suit dirt tracks.
Don't forget " Short Circuit " was born out of there being a lack of suitable road racing circuits being available, another little known fact.
Have I rambled on, probably & yes I've had a few bevvy's.
Maintain the rage because I know of several leading slider rider's from the past who are keen to ride again.
Only if the challenge is there, that competititive streak never really goes away, it just hides for a bit.
-
how good would it be to see full line ups all yr round of these awesome weapons ;D
-
That's exactly where I'm coming from.
I remember when the call would go out, " The Sliders are on "
Honestly that's how it was, a full grid of both A & B graders, all on sliders.
I doubt we'll see the same concentrated influence again.
P.S. In my opinion they are weapons that only a few are brave enough let alone capable enough of riding.
Not that that should stop anyone from having a go.
-
;D bring them back on in full swing with the addition of real oiled tracks again bugger the epa n greens :D

That's a bloody good looking beast, I like the change of frame colour to red for the smaller capacity's.
-
nice lookin machine larry ;D a few things different to mine i noticed that it had the gear shift on right and brake on the left has that been modified that way make for a hell of alot easier gear changing whilst full noise if u notice on mine i run a rear cable and brake pedal on the right and a up sweep pipe but probably change that to a under swept one when i can get someone to build a decent one for it
-
larry
that looks like a full sized frame for a speedway engine and amc box it has the oil in frame as well
jim
-
the engine plates where a seperate thing u could buy and fit to any frame to change motors so i guess someone had this frame to start with when they got the plates to fit the frame i got has no oil in frame and front down tube looks a bit sharper bend on the red one or maybe its just the way im looking at it lol, was it a common thing to change shift side to ?
-
must be the way i was looking at it lol ;D
-
A lot of the leading riders on DT back then rode the smaller classes as well and would change the gear shift over to RH side to keep them the same as their open class Jawa's & Jap's. The 2 riders that come immediately to mind are Chris Watson & Ray Dole.
-

Looks like a stroker to me Jim. There's not a lot of height to fit a JAP/Jawa in there. Some of the stroker frames had oil in frame. My Cheney MXer does for the Autolube tank and I suspect some Hagons and Elstars did too. Not sure about Antigs
-
I reckon right foot shifting is probably a good thing on these machines. Most pommy bikes and early sportsters were right foot shift anyway so it would've felt normal to most blokes I guess. Most of my riding the last few (20 odd) years has been foot clutch and tank shift so the shifting is arse-about to me.
-
I could not do a thing right 'till I changed my XT elstar to right hand change.
cheers

I was thinking the same but don't you have to have a bar pad of some sort now? I hate the flucking things.
no bar pads are required in the moms for any bike pre 78. so in short fork it off :)

Are you sure of that Freaky? I thought the rule covered all classes but I hope you're right. I've got some period 'De Bruizer' bar pads but my minor problem is that I'm using Gary Jones handlebars and they're difficult to pad up neatly.
LATER ADDITION: I emailed Dave Tanner and he's verified that bar pads aren't needed for Classic but are needed for Post Classic. Sorry for the thread hijack......back to sliders ::)

So what your saying is you didnt trust me ? :'( :'( now get back to your deadline and stop reading the forums.
-
well i might take it off if i could be bothered pulling all the gear off the bars again at a bit of a stand still till me wheels and fork damper rod return back from hard chroming but still got plenty of other bike bits n bobs to keep busy with setting up a modern 250 for dirt track for me local track ;D
-
Nice bike Larry,..
The oil in frame was the buyers choice. If you had a 2 stroke engine that ran on pre-mix you didn't need an oil reservoir. The old bikes had an oil tank located beside the rear guard or down near the swingarm. Regarding frames for 250cc or 500cc they are basically the same,... just different engine plates.
