It's been a couple of years in the making and I nearly cracked it a few times and put the whole thing on eBay however with the sale of my KX 80 D2 (I did crack it with that!) I finally had the time and dosh to get this one to a rideable state.
There is a better pipe to go on it once its had a little fitting work done to it and it obviously needs heavier suspension however I did take it for a decent burst on Sunday and everything seemed to work great. Power is awesome from such a little mill and Jim and myself both agreed it has the best front brake of any old bike we own. I've been giggling all week when I think about this bike. :D

The radiator had been by-passed (they cut the hose mounts from the frame >:(), the engine was rooted (as was pretty much the rest of the bike) and I was pretty much over the whole thing as soon as it turned up.... :'(
However I rebuilt the motor.

Great job ,you must be happy with that , another nice mini saved from the scrap heap.
Nice mono shock , did you source that from a local distributor or import it yourself , also is that the standard position for the shock reservoir

The shock came new from Works Performance. They had a hot shock for them in the day so I thought I'd try and stick with the era.
No that wasn't the standard position for the res but I always wanted to do that to a mono-shocked yz but wasn't game to do it to one of its big brothers.
It is nice to ride. Motor is as sweet as and needed no jetting what so ever. With the suspension sorted it could put in some decent lap times. Seriously.
The cats name is Monty and like her name-sake, she's cost us a fortune.... ::)

i had a day on an 80J when i was about 22yr old and it was one of my favourite ride days ever. that thing just screamed to the moon and did everything well.

Nice job Ross it looks great 8) 8) 8). I'm working on its older brother. It's surprising how much work is involved in such a small bike. And everything is so fiddly :o

Doing an 80 is a lot harder than most people think and just as expensive to do. There's probably 3 G sitting there. And 80 J's problems are compounded by the cooling system running through the steering. Seals are nearly non-existant.
Three motors, two frames (thanks again KB ;)) went into it. I would not like to do another one for a while.... :P

Maybe the air-cooled, Pro-linked CR 80 ('81,'82?). But I wouldn't buy something that needed the work that this'n needed.
I can't afford the therapy..... :(
