Title: New spokes
Post by: head on September 19, 2012, 01:06:19 pm
Where is the best place to buy new spokes in Australia that are reasonably priced?
What are the benefits of stainless over zinced steel?
Thanks
Neil

Stainless dont rust is the obvious advantage , a disadvantage is the extra weight though .

78 / 79 KXs came with stainless spokes as std equipment so ca nt be to bad  :)

There's a bloke in Broadford, Bruce Lotherington(?) who would do custom stainless spokes for $100/wheel. Nice bloke too.

I rang John Titman and they wanted $230 a set. Buchanan spokes in USA are around a $100 a set. I would like to buy in Australia but not at $230.

Also try Chivos (Doug Chivas ex sidecar guy) at Granville In western Sydney. They do a full wheel for $200 so I would guess the spokes must come in at around $100

Where do you think Titman gets his spokes from? It's very obvious to me  ;)

You should definitely give Bruce a call, I think he's a bit over $100 but I’m sure it would be worth your while to call him.

I bought my YZ spokes through Rick D at Vintage Iron at around $90 plus post. They come from Buchannan's but Rick was a fair bit cheaper on the postage.

I have just purchased from KSR wheels in the states, 2 x SM Pro platium rims and 2 sets of stainless steel spokes delivered for $400.40 Australian. these are for a 89 500 Honda I am doing. Rims were on speical this month at 169 US and spokes were 85 US per set + 70.00 US delivery.

Google KSR Wheels

Keith is the bloke to speak to. You can email him any time and he gets right back to you.

Also knows his stuff, specially vintage.

I have bought several sets of rims from him and have never had a concern.
