Sharpie was one of the tough ones alright. I spent a lot of time with Sharpie back in his post speedway drag racing days and found that under his cast iron exterior lived a big softy. We'll never forget him as one of the greats of the Sydney Showgrounds golden era in the sixties. Another one bites the dust. RIP.

The Wild man of motorcycling
From taking care of sydney boys sidecar fuel
To his land speed record attempt on the twin Triumph Nitro burning monster over here in the west
Nuts of steel to ride that thing
The Nitro king
RIP Bob

That is very sad news, Bob was a legend of Australian Speedway for sure.
He was a mentor to Speedway riders from in & around Syd for a long long time and had comand of everyones attention when he spoke.
My best memmory is after some of our Speedway club days at Nepean and sitting around the fire down at the river listening to life according to Sharpie, " Eat steak, drink coke and live like a mongrel dog " was one of his vavourite sayings.
A hard but fair man and a truely larger than life character.
Please pass on my regards to Ron & family.
Regards, Steve Askew.
