A few weeks ago I came across a TS250 cylinder and head that were like nothing I have seen before. The cylinder does not have any reeds so its pre 1976. A standard TS cylinder has a bridged intake, unbridged exhaust and 2 transfer ports. This cylinder has the same but also has 2 other transfer ports located right above the intake port. The head also has only one hole for a sparkplug where as normally there are 2. I also know the kit came with a new piston and a different exhaust. I have seen the exhuasts before and they are easy to spot vs the standard. Does anyone know if the piston was any different from the standard? I also have heard that the kit came with a new carb but I cannot find any evidence of this? maybe just different jetting? Also if anyone has any other info about the kit I would love to hear it. So do I have the factory kit cylinder or something else?

Hi and welcome to the forum :)
That looks like a 1976 TS 250A set up . One year only model , the cylinder has no steel liner its coated with what was marketed as SCEM plating (Suzuki Composite Electro-chemical Material ) like a modern Nikasil coating and cant be rebored and rings are not interchangeable .
The TS 250A did have a completley different carb to all other TS 250s and was actuated bu two cables (pull and Push ) like a 4 stroke .
The A motor also benefited from a rack and pinion clutch actuator (same as TM 250 ) and a TM style magneto cover .
The TS 250A was a good bike for the era , came std with Alloy rims , steel seratted footpegs , finned resivour shocks , TM 250 style forks and the better motor ( if serviced and maintained properly )
Google up TS 250 A and you should find all you need about your motor .

The cylinder does look like '76 TS250A as Bill says but the head looks like 1969/70 TS250. I have a '69 TS250 and it only has the 1 central spark plug same as your pic ;)

Disappointing, I thought for sure I found that kit cylinder. Didn't think to look at the cylinder wall coating it became obvious once you said something about it.

Hi guys. I've just added a '69 ts250 to my collection (plan to hop it a bit for vintage dirt track in Canberra). so basically after any useful info. apparently suzi only made this motor for two years - 68-69 or 69-70? (nicknamed the 'round case motor' or something?). Any tips for extracting a few more horses? Its got a fairly decent bassani on it but otherwise stock (and unrestored, but going). The word is that late seventies ts185 shocks are good value for this bike too? Do later model cylinders fit? If not, porting tips?? Anyone got a manual they could copy for me??? Other things to watch out for??? Parts availability???
