Title: Best aftermarket plastics.
Post by: mustanggrahame on August 31, 2012, 06:05:00 pm
Genuine guards don't seem to be a huge problem but what about sidecovers, front number plates and tanks? Is X-treme YZ stuff any good? Does the airbox  sidecover fit well? Any other suggestions? The bike will be used as a race one but want to keep it nice.

Nice bike Graham, If your talk to Les from VMX Unlimited, he will tell you that most of the after market YZ plastics come from the same mould which is (Maier). I just finished drilling & fitting new Maier ones an hour ago on my 465H. (They are reasonably shiny, but I wouldn't say the side covers are the best fit as the holes don't line up the best. The front & rear fenders are a good fit). From what Les says, even xtreamyz are Maier! I Also have a set of VMX racing plastics from the US, but haven't tried them for fit yet. And VMX racing no longer do YZ plastics. I wish there was more to choose from.

I understand XYZ's are different from Maiers.  After selling Maiers initially I think he gets them made in the Maiers factory using his own moulds.  They fit perfectly.  Far superior to any of the others

These are XYZ.  Note where the screws are in relation to the rebate - dead in the centre  8).  The Maier doesn't fit anything like this (neither does the DC).  I have a set of each.

I like the sound of a perfect fit! I will give them a go when I get around to my 250/465G resto's  8) Lucky the Maiers were only for my 3 race bikes. I have a feeling that xtreamYZ bought the moulds off Peter from VMX Racing. Thanks for the heads up 250H.

No worries.  Sometimes you have to be a bit patient with him as I don't think XYZ is his day job.  By the time he packs up a pair of side covers there is not much in it for him either so ...

Thanks for all that info. I'll order some sidecovers from XYZ. Not in a huge hurry so waiting a bit wont matter.
Cheers, Grahame
