The Monty looks very clean, it always pizzles me when they are selling a bike why would you not show both sides of the bike, instead of only one side, its like they are hiding something.

Yes if all we have to go on is a few photos, it is a significant disadvantage to only be able to see one side. A bit like having fuzzy, or tiny photos, or standing too far away from the bike, or only showing some parts of the bike with no overall views.

I have seen the bike and it seems complete and in reasonably good condition. It is owned by a rider from the Denman club who can no longer ride. Having said that I have not heard it run or being rdden. I think it is a little expensive as it was not the most favoured of that model year and is a difficult model for some parts as the engine is a 248 but based on the 349 cases not the 247 series and was only produced in small numbers for a couple of years. all the running gear is 349 so is over engineered and heavy for the smaller engine.

i thought that would be a good thing no1 for being small numbers produced [value plays a part] no2 over engineered that wouldnt hurt on vintage trials just my thoughts ::)

The over engineered thing means that it is has the same weight, size and relatively slow steering of the 349 but with much less grunt. I'm not saying that it is not collectable but from using it in twin shock trials it would not be a first choice.

Best part about this unit, only about four came to Aus. through Lyle O'brien.
Found this out after selling mine for peanuts. Nice and smooth to ride, but not a good trialer (or maybe it was just me)
It seemed a bit higher geared compared to other models IMO.

Maybe the scarcity of a model is something desirable for some people, but it usually tells you something about the popularity of the bike from a rider's perspective if hardly any were sold. The popular bikes back then are generally still the popular ones nowadays, except for Honda TLR250s, which were not popular when new, but are very popular now because of the way Twinshock Class eligibility rules apply in Australia.

I've seen the wheelbase quoted as 1350mm for the 248.
Is that likely? (seems inordinately looong)

I would say it is a typo as the 349 of the same year is 1315mm which is still long for a trials bike. The type of sections and riding in '79 - '82 meant it was ideal. 350 Bullies and 349 Cota look around the same length.

Yes Feetupfun the TLR250 seems to be the bike of choice for twinshock trials but according to Peter Paice they were considered to be just a novice or fun bike back in the day as they were just not competative.

I rode one in Finland last year it was a bit funny in the front it didn't turn like my Ossa, but it is strange over there it's the same thing with Honda twin shocks being popular.
