Although my passion is in pre '75 and pre '65 bikes but I have to say that those over the top works bikes from the 80s are the ducks guts. We did get to see a few OW Yamahas and SR Kawasakis herein Australia but did we get any of those genuine HRC bikes here?

all though not HRC but How about Marks Pace's Genuine Mugen 390 (the only mugen 390 ever) and its still in OZ.

Leiskys 84' HRC 500 (not sure if it was a japan HRC jobbie or local Honda with HRC bits, probably the later)

and Jobe's & Bayles 1992 works Honda's came for a holiday to the Manjimup MX des nations in 1992.

I'm no expert but the only full HRC CR still in Australia is Wayne Gardner's 500 on display at the Bathurst museum.IIRC it was built for the annual Guidon D'or(Golden Handlebars) that was the precursor to SuperMoto. All the GP riders would front for that one and some VERY trick bikes were airfreighted out to France for the race.Wayne still describes the HRC CR 500 as "one very fast motorcycle" and you would have say Wayne would be a good judge of that ;D

there may possibly be another as Doohan had a HRC 500 (it may have been one of jobes bikes) to practice on here in oz in mid 90's

One of the best things I ever did was to go to the states in 85, the last year of the works bikes in the US. I went to quite a few races & the highlight was the Hangtown National. With an SLR camera & an accent I bullshitted my way in to a press pass & had a free run of the place. As well as a lot of race shots I got a few pit shots as well, this is a couple of them.
He was running No 6 that year in the nationals so it's odd the other photo's have a different No.
He would have been No 1 for 86 but I would have thought he would have been on a prodution bike in 86. Also have a feeling he left Honda at the end of 85???

GMC, thanks for those shots! I remember seeing pics of that bike at age 15 and could not imagine anything better. Still can't, might have to make a replica :D

Lechien left Honda at the end of '85 for Kawasaki, from what I read in the magazines at the time he was a bit of a wild child, and Honda let him go. I think he had a fairly up and down time at Kawasaki too.

i read in jeremy mcgraths biograghy that lechien was hooked on drugs and alcohol in the last few years he was with kawasaki.....apparently he copped fines all the time because he couldnt pass all the mandatory drug tests...after kawi sacked him he was involved in armed hold ups....drive byes and hit and runs....no joke...get jeremys book its one of the best ive ever read... :)
