Would be an excellent start for a nut and bolt restore

Pity it's a stoopid price... :(
-
I wouldn't say it's a stupid price, although it has seen a bit of weather it looks very original! You don't see many with the original baffle :o
-
i paid $2000 for my one owner RM250X that was in just as original condition but nowhere near as faded. Given the market at the moment i think its over the top, imo.
-
That's a lot of money for a bike that needs a resto..
-
Seller reckons the bike spent most of its life chasing cattle. Does that mean the bike is a "dog" or they have fast cattle on their farm...... ;D
-
And you could spend another 2 grand easy on it......
-
It's hard to know with bikes like that I reckon. It's all original and low hours, but if it's life has been flogging around a paddock and then chucked in the shed between rides, it's gonna have a lot of corrosion and wear. So, new plastics or a lot of work on what's there, probably needs all new rubber/perishables like airbox boot/inlet manifold, all those lovely linkage bearings may be shot and so on. I think it's a bike you'd have to have a good look at. Still, it is a solid low hour starting point for a great resto. Price wise, the right price is whatever the market will pay on the day, isn't it?

I paid $2000 US for my RM465Z & it cost me near on 2K to get it to OZ. So you can say it owes me 4K. I must say it's a original bike, but it still could do with a light resto. Good big bores aren't cheap in my view.

over the top $$,we picked up three for the price of this one.!
One roller and part boxs, one goody and one 2st 250 8)
cheers

Well, my RM465X is a lot cheaper than that, AND in much better conidition..... ::)
-
It's just a rusty old pig that would need thousands spent on it....a similar bike in the States would be lucky to pull a grand.

Well the difference between this:

and this:

I would guesstimate between $3500 and $4500 which includes sourcing a lot of missing parts as well as replacing a lot of parts. The only thing from the original bike is the chassis/shock and engine, pipe, rear wheel and fork boots. If you are not going to do a lot of the work yourself then the price will blow out obviously. I did everything to this that I possibly could which is the whole point.
Based on the bike for sale for $2k, you could throw $1500ish at it and have a very nice very original one for less than, or close to what I spent and mine one is nowhere near original.
Consider the last '83 KX500 I saw on EBay go for $1700+ in probably slightly worse condition and knowing what the Green is like for parts, this one is on the money IMHO.

I'm not going to enter the ring over what's a good price or not for a bike on sale somewhere on the interweb, but one thing I have witnessed over the last year or so is that the arse has dropped out of the market.
12 months ago the bike below would have sold for better than 2k, yet now doesn't get a single bid at $1500
Some would say that it's a one off, or one of those auctions that slipped between the cracks and was missed, but I have seen plenty of good projects or actual ready to ride machines that have been passed in or sold at ridiculously low prices. What we are going to see is a bunch of people that will hoard bikes (rightly so) rather than sell them on waiting for better times and/or more money, much the opposite to what we sore some years back when people bought them cheap and hoarded them, waiting for a time when they get the time to restore the bike, if ever at all.

Sad that a 500 can't be sold, Im hoping my restoration of my RM500 will cost less than 5grand got the bike for free, resleeve has cost me 700 spent about 300 on rubbers seals etc, still chasing plastics and a rear wheel not to mention rebuilding shock.
