Title: high bend bars
Post by: TonyB on April 03, 2008, 07:39:01 pm
who still makes the high bend handle bars like we used to have. I have had to use extenders but they come loose somtimes with alarming results.. Holeshot buddy have you got some straight bars for yz,s 250 465 1981 etc?

Renthal make a vintage high bar, think i saw a set on one of brads bikes and Pro Taper make a KX high bar which is pretty good. I've got Jimmy Button Renthals on most of my bikes, they are higher than the average bars.

Thanks guys,I will look at the renthals, yes if I use the high bend with extenders then I could even break out the ol tassles and hang them at each end of the bars, mmm I might even start a craze amongst the kids,,,

tassles?
just when i was starting to think you were an ok fella Tony?
but now i'm not so sure.

there was a thread a while back, i can't remember if it was the old forum or current where we talked about high rise bars mostly for the pre75 crop of bikes.
Don Newell can get them in chromed steel and i've recently discovered the good old steel "Eliminator" bars in what they call the MX-7 bend. 820mm wide with about a 120mm rise at around $40 bucks a pop. most bike shops can get them and they come in painted silver. spot on for pre-75.

Tony,
Don't forget the cardboard in the back spokes.....although it might take you past 96db while in motion.

Brenden I remember the first two things I did to my chopper bicycle was to pull the tassles off and clip on the o'l cardboard, I even used different lengths of cardboard to get different sounds...then we got arsy and started welding on lengths to the front forks and we ended up with choppers that looked like the classic chopper in easy rider (older wiser 16years olds did the welding for us which used to last a few days then 2 days bed rest with road rash) ;D

i got a set of the tallest renthals i could get from http://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/ they are the dakar or enduro high bend. they are excellent for vintage bikes. ive also got a set of jimmy buttons and the desert vintage bend but the dakar bend is just a little higher and wider than both of those

Look for Renthal 764 bend (Jimmy Button).  Easier to find if you know the bend number.

Hi Tony,
I have put Eliminator bars on all my vintage bikes they are very cheap at $35.00 and they match the high Yamaha bars that were on the yz c models etc.

cheers

Fatboyracing where do you get the el cheapos? and what is the rise? I also can't find the renthal 764? Jimmu Button? I found the others and it looks as though 95mm was the highest rise of those mentioned,,

Hi Tony,
They are Eliminator mx 7 I think they are available at any of our bike shops down here I just got them to order them in I will try to find out where they come from on the mainland. I know they will fit on a Yamaha yz c model with the aircaps and still have a bit of room .
Way better then paying $100plus dollars for Renthals or Original Yamaha Bars

Cheers
Fatboy

I rang Gwilym today about an order he's getting together for me, He doesn't have these bars in stock at the moment but he's getting me a pair. You might want to give him a call before you head in.
