from the forum......

This................. is a stock 500cc two-stroke that is fuel-injected.

It's not a KX500, but a '85 CR500 (with 68 ponies).

Wonder how it handles, considering the donor frame used?

You get a donor YZF 450 frame when you blow up the motor and it's going to cost NZ$8,000 to have it repaired. Don't you just love 2 Strokes, how many times could you rebuild a 2 stroke for that amount of money.
The quote from the magazine Dirt Rider DownUnder reads " He was given a quote of $8,000 for the repair job..... "

Probably pushes from the centre out. Might need to add a tooth to the rear.

The other bikes sound like 4 strokes.
Wonder how it would go against a real bike.
Am thinking a 83/495 KTM would make for an interesting drag race.

Hmmm... not too sure on that. What did the Katoom make? The CR500 has a pipe and EFI so you'd think it'd be hitting around 65 horses. The 450 four-strokes he was racing would be what, 55?

The tester is Peter Broxholme, 1 of our best current riders & a hell of a nice guy. Not 100% sure but I think the owner races VMX as well as moderns
Has done a few training days for VMX riders, did 1 with him a couple of months ago & got to watch him testing a tricked out CRF250 for the magazine & heard his feedback. If he's enthusiastic about the bike then chances are it really works
