Title: 2 stroke leak down tester
Post by: vmxrider on June 09, 2012, 06:33:04 pm
Here's a few pics of the leak tester I made for an IT175 motor.
Been having some problems with pinging and lean running.
Made and fitted a new base gasket, and annealed the head gasket.
The rubber plug for the exhaust and the plastic elbow at the intake are from Bunnings. Had the other bits laying round.
Pumped it up to about 8 PSI and pressure drops in about 15 mins. I'm not an expert here, but would think thats pretty good.

I use about half that pressure and look for stuff all pressure drop over 3 - 4 minutes to be happy. Nice job on the leak down arrangements!

My IT465H would start up allright but as it warmed up it would start to run on .It had been sitting for a while with a leaking fuel tap ,I replaced the left side crank seal and its running sweet now .The old seal was hard and cracked .Remove stator ,put grease on drill gently drill a hole in middle of old seal and screw a long self tapper into seal and pry seal out using pliers on self tapper . fit new seal

Been having pinging problems with the IT for a while now. Did the bottom end not so long ago with a new rod kit, bearing, seals etc.
Still pinged a bit tho'
Then developed a bit of a leak at the base gasket (non genuine) so renewed that (with another non genuine, have a genuine on order) and annealled the head gasket while I had it off.
Leak tester indicates that all is now well, will get to have a ride next week see how it goes.
In its younger days this thing was a rocket.

did a lot of 2stroke leak downs test when i worked at ktm ,set at 6 psi no higher than 8 psi , a leak rate of 1 psi per minute is acceptable ,used soapy water to find any leaks

Had a test run today, ran great, no run on, no pinging.  I like it again now.  :)
