Title: Odd things that work well on a dirt bike.
Post by: evo550 on May 31, 2012, 10:26:20 pm
I was trawling ebay for an aftermarket front brake line guide, as the genuine one is NLA. After looking for a while I stumbled across this, http://www.ebay.com/itm/150678473673?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1952.l2649, thinking that's just what I need and just about to push the button and spend $10, the penny dropped.
What is it ?

Head off to Bunnings and buy the same drawer handle for $2. Kudos for advertising effort though.

had the same appifany today, been looking for a steel bush to shim out a 12mm shock eyelet down to 10mm ID.  I found ones from old shock but there OD just wouldnt go in, then tried to find a piece of steel tube and so on in the end it all got to hard.  but for the life of me i searched the house high and low because im sure i had seen one somewhere.....  in the end i come across a dyna bolt and noticed the shaft was roughly same od and same ID but was crush and spaced. then i remembered using longer ones that had a top sleeve on them.   Today in bunning found the 125mm dyna have 2 bushed on them $4 later i put them in fit perfectly and these ones were stainless too.   Cant believe its such a perfect cheap fit solution.  Should have seen my grin....

It's funny, when I'm walking around a hardware store or discount shop, the assistant asks "what are you looking for"  I laugh to myself and think "man you couldn't comprehend if I told you".  I've made lots of things from items that were never desiged for such uses lol.

...yes... orrrrr...

Bunnings should have a sign next to each item with:
' Other buyers who bought this item used / modified it for _______ '

 ;D

Wow, this thread is a real surprise - I saw the title and straight away, I thought I knew the answer. Seems that the thread wasn't about Sean Hardman afterall...

KB is probably the most ingenious bloke as far as inventing stuff and using things in ways they were never intended.  His Dunny lid side covers are awesome  ;D ;D ;D

Speaking of odd things that work well on a dirt bike, I've seen some odd things that work on a dirt biker! Have any of you guys been unfortunate to see what Montynut puts on his nipples while he races? ;D Looks like a ballerina in drag.

In the past I've used rubber plumbing reducers for Maico carb-airboot rubbers and Adel electrical/plumbing clamps to mount things to my frames without having to weld brackets. My big problem with Bunnings is in the pissy selection of nuts and bolts they have on offer.

Yep, plumbing adapters and toilet pan connectors make great carb/airbox boots! I also love Clarke's Rubber. So many great and useful things - grommets aplenty, chair leg plugs fit handlebars perfectly, walking cane tips come in different sizes and work perfectly as muffler bungs, tons of foams, rubbers and so on to make various cushions/protectors etc, and of course all the hose you could want...
