At least I can give you blokes something VMX related this time. ;D
As part of our efforts to raise some money to help out some sick kids, Bob Hannah has agreed to donate a signed throwback jersey as below. It will be auctioned on eBay sometime just before the ride starts on May 17. So all you Hannah fans better start saving up. ;)

I also managed to get him to convince his mate, 6 time AMA champion Mat Mladin to pitch in and he's signing a riding jacket which will also be auctioned on eBay.
I'll post links to the auctions once they're set up.
-
You're going well with this Tony; any luck with 'Australian Story'?
-
Not as yet, mate.
I've sent them all the details, but no reply at this stage.
-
G'day Tony good work getting some big names to help , How about some pics of your bikes or are they top secret ?. Are you recruiting at CD5 ,There might be some more legends to get on board .
-
Nah Hilly. The bikes are far from top secret, but Suzuki have just finished preparing mine and now it's got to go to Frank Pons to have the suspension improved before I get it to then add all the navigation gear etc. So I haven't even seen it yet.
I only got Mat Mladin involved because he's mates with Bob Hannah who organised his help for me. He just happens to be back over here at the end of the week to sign a jacket for me.
CD5 would be the perfect place to get some more legends on board, but unfortunately I'm so busy with the ride stuff and still trying to keep food on the table that I can't get over there.
Still, it's pretty damn cool to know that absolute heroes like Bob and Mat will help out when they can.
However, if anyone happens to find a signed Joel Robert jersey in the carpark afterwards........................... ;)
It's going to look pretty suspect if I'm the highest bidder on all this stuff though............................. :-\
-
Not that you blokes will will worry about this one.....................
But Mat Mladin didn't end up making the trip over here so there's no signed jacket but he did get "his people" to send me over a Joe Rocket Vertical Suzuki leather riding jacket. Which is still a pretty good offer to someone he's never met. Well over $500.00 RRP.
However, I have got the Bob Hannah signed Yamaha jersey in my hands ready to frame and auction.
If the winner is in Australia, it will be framed with a gold plaque outlining his championships etc, etc. Sending a frame O.S. would cost too much.
We expect the auction to start the same day as the ride. May 17..................
So don't spend up too big at CD5. Save some money for the kids living with cancer. ;D

5 days to go until we're on the road.
Won't have much from from now on to post here.
It's all come together. Just doing a few jobs like planning an escape route through Tjuntjuntjarra if the country along the SA/WA border becomes too difficult. It's all pretty well unknown between Forrest Lakes and the Anne Beadell Highway and well out of flying Doctor/helicopter range, so we'd better get it right through there.....................
Big thanks also to T250K for the donation. Thanks mate. ;D
See you all in a month or so....................
P.S. I've run out of time to auction the Bob Hannah jersey, so we'll do it when we get back. Fundraising will continue until the close of the raffle on August 8 anyway.
-
Good luck Tony, take care and have a blast mate! ;)
-
Take care, enjoy our big beautiful country and those red red dunes.
Keep an eye out for the roaming bull camels, don't stop for one. ;)
cheers
-
Grab a couple of frill neck lizards for me will ya Tony 8). have a ball :DTim
-
and well out of flying Doctor/helicopter range, so we'd better get it right through there.....................
Out of range of the Doctor?! I thought they went everywhere?
Hey, if you get stuck call 'A Current Affair' and tell 'em you've stumbled across Bin Laden.
They'll have Ray Martin and fleet of choppers there within the hour!
Good luck and good onya!
-
Does anyone know how Tony and the bike funraising explorers are going ??? ??? ???
-
So has he been bitten by a camel or mobbed by lizards .......... ???
Has no one heard if is still riding out there in the outback ??? ??? ???
-
hang on a sec I'll go out back and have a looky..nope not here sorry..maybe the aliens abducted him! :o
Tony's more than likely ok, they (them little green men) are probably just after the new zooki's for testing and evaluation purposes ;)

I'm baaaack............... ;D
I actually got back last Sunday, but work/family pressures wrote off most of last week too.
I had absolutely no problems, even punting the V-Strom through the deep, soft sand in the Simpson.

Now we need to get serious about selling raffles tickets to get the cash together to help these families.
See new post. ;D

Good onya Tony, it looks like quite an experience.
They have to be the biggest front knobbies I've ever seen; surely they're not standard?
Can we expect more photos?
-
il donate 1 sp370 motor thats rolling around in my van still, that needs a good home.
Shall i send it to Wasleys ?
-
The knobbie pattern in the sand in the first photo is the same as the second photo but in the clouds ::),well if your an artist you'd see it. :-\
Doesn't look like Mr Bendell has graded that line for a while ;D
Well done to you and your crew, good to see the country hasn't changed and not burnt out too much.
cheers Alison
-
Ah yes, those front tyres............ They're actually 19" rear tyres. :-\ Yeah, I was sceptical too and in fact after the first 15 minutes on them, I was ready to go back and refit the TKC80's.
But once we got into softer going, they were fantastic! They made the Simpson crossing quite easy. Didn't get stuck or fall off even once. You just had to be very careful on hardpack or bitumen. :D
Thanks for that Freaky. I was just thinking of sending you a pm to see if you had it. Plan to take it to Wasleys the next time you're going, but I may have to come to town in the meantime, so I could pick it up from somewhere down there if I do. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks for your kind words too, Alison. The country along the SA/WA border was looking great thanks to good rains around Christmas time, but the further East we got, the worse it started to look. Around Poeppel Corner, the place was just dead. Not good to see.
There's a quick slideshow of photos here too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaJb7keHe6M (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaJb7keHe6M)

NO probs its now in my garage at the bay, you can swing past and collect it or i can take it to work on greenhil road. just give me a days warning if your coming in.
-
Hi all.
For some reason, the raffle isn't proving to be too popular. If anyone's got any suggestions as how we can sell a few (read "a lot") more books, I'd love to hear them.
The raffle is the major part of our fundraising effort so I really need to move a lot of books over the next couple of weeks to make the event a success.
Any and all suggestions, most welcome. ;D
Thank you.
Edit: Just noticed this will fall somewhere inbetween Rick Sieman's plight and the half naked women............. I'd be surprised if anyone even reads this................. :D :D
-
Tony,
I have had a couple of goes at buying some tickets online and haven't been able too, the link to the tickets doesn't work.
Maybe other people are having the same trouble.
..............wonder where I'll hang my hannah jersey.....?
-
yeah i had a go yesterday and it seems to be a bit user un freindly
-
Thanks a lot for that fellas.
I'll ring them right now and see why it is so....................
-
Just rang them and found out that it's not actually an online order form. You just download the form, print it out, fill it out and mail it to us.
I just did it and it works but right click on the form below and print it out if that helps.
